Kathryn Cholak Obituary

Kathryn "Kathy" Ann Cholak of Bowie, MD, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on October 11, 1955, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Kathryn was a source of endless kindness, warmth, and devotion to her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Kathryn was the loving wife of Phillip Cholak Sr., with whom she shared more than 45 years of marriage. Kathryn was also a stay-at-home mother, the primary caregiver and nurturer, who raised their three children, Phillip Jr., Amanda, and Christopher-with incredible love, patience, and dedication. She poured her heart into her family, always putting her children's needs first. Her love for them was unwavering, and she was their guiding light through every stage of their lives. Her granddaughter, Cassie, who affectionately referred to her as G-Ma, cherished every moment with her. After focusing on raising her children, Kathryn followed her passion for helping others, starting her career as a nurse, which she found deeply fulfilling. She touched the lives of many, offering care and compassion to all her patients. In retirement, Kathryn and her husband, Phillip, made the move to Lewes, Delaware, where they enjoyed life by the coast, spending time with family and friends. Kathryn was known by all for her infectious personality and warmth. She could light up any room with her humor and the love she had for people. She was also widely known for her gift of gab, always ready to engage in conversation, share stories, and make everyone around her feel welcome and special. Her genuine interest in others and her ability to connect with people left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Kathryn's life was a true testament to love, strength, and selflessness. Raising her children and being a grandmother was her greatest joy, and she gave them all of herself. Her legacy of compassion, laughter, and dedication will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Kathryn is survived by her loving husband, Phillip Cholak Sr.; her children, Phillip Jr., Amanda, and Christopher; one granddaughter, Cassie Danz; her beloved brothers, James Mason Jr. and Robert Mason; and many nephews and nieces who were blessed by her love. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Dorothy Mason. Though we will miss Kathryn deeply, we take comfort in the love and laughter she shared with all of us. Her spirit will continue to inspire, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2 to 4 p.m. at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Robert S. Crain Highway, Bowie, MD, 20715. Please visit Kathryn's life memorial at www.parsellfuneralhomes.com.

My deepest, heartfelt condolences to my brother-in-law, Phil, and my nephews and nieces, Phillip, Mandy, Chris and Cassie. My sister-in-law, Kathy, and I met as teenagers about 50 years ago when she began dating Phil. I immediately adored her! She was a remarkable young woman with a heart of gold! Her kindness and compassion for all was extraordinary. I have to admit that I was more than a little sad (and even a bit jealous) when they married and Phil whisked her away to a life in Maryland! The distance limited our chances to spend time together, but she lived a happy and fulfilled life there. She was devoted to her family and loved her role as wife, mother and grandmother. Over the years when we would get together were such joyous times for me. I delighted in every moment we spent talking and laughing for hours on end. As I write this, it is with tears in my eyes that she has left us. All my love to her family whom I know have many cherished memories of her. We can hold onto those as we keep them and her in our hearts forever.
