"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts."
-Washington Irving
Lula Petousis Mathews, 78, of Canonsburg, passed away battling cancer on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
She was born on November 11, 1943, to the late Ann and George Petousis.
After becoming a legal secretary and working at Westinghouse Astronuclear, and a prominent local attorney, she married the late Russell Mathews and had 2 cherished children, Patricia (Anthony) Bessios and Russell (Geraldine "Gigi") Mathews.
Her favorite, most important position was Mom. She dedicated her life to us, adored her grandchildren, Russell and Ginger, and always laughed or argued with her siblings: surviving brother, Harry (Diane) Phillips, and late sister and brother, Maria Moray and Peter Petousis.
She was an elegant light to those closest to her, treasured her friends, loved to dance, dress, cook, volunteer, cheerlead and raise her family.
