Marcia Kalka Obituary

Marcia Lynn Kalka, 71, of Cecil, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, with her loving husband by her side, after an extended illness. She was born to the late Frederick and Matilda Vetter on October 11, 1953, in Pittsburgh. Marcia Kalka was a devoted wife, mother, aunt and grandmother. She was a pillar of strength and a source of unwavering support for her family, always putting her children's needs before her own. Marcia instilled an excellent work ethic in all her children and often worked two jobs throughout her life to ensure that no need went unmet. Throughout Marcia's life, she found joy in traveling and spending time with her family. She particularly enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean and Florida. On many vacations, she would enjoy time on the beach. While raising her kids, she found joy in watching them play sports and listening to them play the piano. Marcia was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and cheered for the Black and Yellow every Sunday from her home. Marcia was fond of cats, regularly taking in new cats that needed a foster home. She particularly loved playing with her cats and enjoying their comfort. Marcia is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Jerry Kalka; her devoted children: Jayme Milani (Mark Wolfe), Jeremy Kalka (Nicole), Dr. Nathan Kalka (Alicia) and Corey Kalka (Lauryn); her cherished grandchildren: Abby, Hayden, Lucas, Sydney, Clark and Miles; and her beloved sisters, Darlene Weidenheft (the late John Weidenheft) and Barbara Dominowski (James); and her beloved brother, Ronald Vetter (Donna). The family would like to thank the staff at Amedisys Hospice Care for their compassion and care during Marcia's final days. No service or arrangements will be made at Marcia's wishes. Her body has been donated for science to further medical research. Marcia will continue to live in our hearts, and we will miss her greatly.

One of my most cherished memories of Marcia, my mother-in-law, is her unwavering commitment to her children. When my husband, Nathan Kalka, and I met over 13 years ago, Marcia worked two jobs. We had many conversations about her working two jobs, and she did that for many years. Her dedication to her work was not just about providing for the family, but it was a testament to the legacy she was building for her family. She rarely missed work and had a resounding work ethic, a trait she instilled in all her children. I admired how hard she worked for the family and to provide.

One memory that stands out of Marcia is the joy and fun she had when we all went to Florida together. Marcia, Jerry, Nathan, and I went on many vacations together over the years, and she grew fond of Florida. She enjoyed cocktails that were "fruity or sweet" and would sit on the beach with me. These were the moments when we let our hair down and laughed with each other while Nathan and Jerry were in the water fishing together. She always enjoyed dressing up for dinner when we would go out, making sure she wore a new outfit. I enjoyed our dinners at the house, and she always asked me if I was preparing everything in advance. Haha She did enjoy the cheesy potatoes. I will forever treasure our phone calls (mostly about our new cat Charlie and what we had planned for dinner each evening), our memories of Florida as a family, and the times we spent together. I am thankful I had a mother-in-law who loved and cared about me; she knew how much I loved her son and that I had unwavering support for the family.

Marcia, you will be deeply missed, but I know you will live on through your children and the family. We will continue to make you proud and we love you very much!
