Margaret L. "Peg" Batson, 82, of Washington, died Tuesday, November 30, 2021, in Washington Hospital. She was born April 7, 1939, in Washington.

Peg worked a number of service jobs before going to work for the Washington Women's shelter. She retired from the shelter as a counselor, however she would tell you she ran the shelter for many years.

Peg will be remembered as a mother who was very involved in her children's lives. She served as homeroom mother, cheerleading advisor, and girl scout leader. She was incredibly proud of helping the early growth of TWIST Softball, and serving as one of their first female coaches. She was also an active member of Elks Lodge #776 B.P.O.E, Washington.

She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She was well known in the community and will be missed by many.

On June 7, 1950, in Illinois, she married the love of her life, Ronald R. Batson, who died January 15, 1990.

Surviving are a son, Richard (Kimberly) Batson, of Washington; four daughters, Roni L. (Fred) Batson, of Washington, Robin L. Batson, of Oaklyn, N.J., Renea L. (Brian) Lacock, of Washington, and Richelle R. (Michael) Batson-Walker; a brother, Robert (Denise) Lee, Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Mona (Dennis) Tokarcik, of Morgantown, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Peyton, Luke, Leah, Mackenzie, and Lilly; nine great-grandchildren, R.J., Kirra, Xander, Abby, Morgan, Kyle, Kamryn, Nathaniel, and Love; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her husband, is her sister, Barbara Roberts.

All services are private and entrusted to Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Directors, Inc., Charles R. Piatt, owner/supervisor, Andrew C. Piatt, director.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.piattandbarnhillfh.com. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to D.V.S.S.P., formerly The Washington Women's Shelter, 371 Lowhill Road, Brownsville, PA 15417, or the charity of one's choice.

Such found memories of Mrs Batson. She always gave the gift of her time, always serving and a joy to the community. I can still remember a Girl Scout Halloween party in the garage bobbing for apples - such a fun time. Sending prayers and condolences to the family.

Roni, you & your whole family have my deepest sympathy. Peg was everything stated in her obituary plus a whole lot more. We became great friends while both of us were working for Washington Women's Shelter. Even though we we didn't see each other during this terrible pandemic I thought of her every day.
