Marjorie Cunningham Obituary

With humble acceptance of God's will, the family of Marjorie Mae Ashmore Cunningham share her passing Sunday, November 2, 2025, when her time on earth ended at Evergreen Assisted Living, Washington, at the age of 95. A journey of love, compassion, kindness, inspiration and courage. This is not the end but only the beginning. She is in the arms of her Lord and Savior and walking with those that she has missed for so long. Born August 16, 1930 in Claysville, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Elma Jackson Ashmore. Most of her life was spent in Taylorstown. She married Donald "Duke" Cunningham September 15, 1947. He passed May 23, 1994. They shared 47 years together. Marjorie is survived by her son, Don "Monk" (Cheryl) Cunningham; grandsons, Shawn (Jayme) Cunningham, Eric (Julie) Cunningham; great-grandchildren, Aydan, Emma and Adalyn Mae Cunningham; and her baby brother, Larry (Carolyn) Ashmore. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Her niece, Kandi Mae (Tim) Harrison carries on her middle name with love. Deceased are three brothers, the Rev. Charles Ashmore, Elbin Dale Ashmore and Robert Ashmore; and one sister, Mary Laverne "Vernie" Carson. She was a member of Taylorstown Presbyterian Church for 81 years, where she was an ordained elder and also served on several committees. She was a member of the Claysville Mother's Club and a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Taylorstown Legion Post 907. She also belonged to a Tuesday Women's Bowling League with a high score of 193. She attended Trinity High School Class of 1949. She and her sister co-owned Marge & Vernie's Diner on Route 40. She was one of the first employees hired at the Washington K-Mart and worked there 23 years. Many of those years, she was the manager at the Snack Bar. She always enjoyed meeting so many families and being a part of their lives. During the rebuild after the fire, she worked at Washington Restaurant. If you knew her, she probably didn't call you by name but referred to you as "Honey". She loved animals and pampered her pets. She enjoyed camping at Salt Fork, cooking for a crowd, spending time with her grandchildren, and working for her church. A special thanks to the staff at Evergreen and OSPTA for loving and caring for her. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 6, with the Rev. Clayton LaPosta officiating. Interment will follow at Claysville Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Taylorstown Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 150, Taylorstown, PA 15365.
