Monte Bogush Obituary

Monte Louise Bogush, 82, of Brookville, formerly Houston, passed away, peacefully, Friday, July 26, 2024, in the Penn Highlands Dubois Hospital. She was born April 23, 1942, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Consalvo "Nick" and Anne Cushey Derrico. Monte was a 1960 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh. Mrs. Bogush had worked as an accountant with Westinghouse Credit Corp., as a dental assistant, and as a medical records technician for Washington Hospital until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish in Canonsburg. Monte was truly a magnificent person who was well loved by her family and friends. Her generosity, love of family, and compassion for others knew no bounds. She was a friend to all who knew her by word and deed and could be relied upon in times of need. She loved spending time with family and showed her love for them through her baking and cooking. Monte also enjoyed painting, ceramics, flower gardening, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers with her family. On August 31, 1968, she married Bernard W. "Bernie" Bogush, her husband of nearly 56 years, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Dawn Lacko (James) of Melbourne, Fla.; a son, Michael Bogush (Amy) of Brookville; four grandchildren, Brookelynn McElroy, Bradley Lacko, and Miles and Adam Bogush; great-granddaughter, Monterey McElroy; two sisters, Diane DelVecchio of Canonsburg, Connie Flowers of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; a brother, Denny Derrico (Linda) of Cecil; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to her parents, is a sister, Joyce Arnal. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, August 23, in St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the hospice service of one's choice. Monte was one of those very few persons that you immediately liked. She was so genuine and engaging ... like a life long friend. Warm and caring..
attentive and concerned. I always felt so comfortable speaking with her. Bernie and Monte were of one mind and more importantly, one heart.
