Robert Hayden Obituary

Robert "Bob" Caldwell Hayden, 77, of Forward Township, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024. Bob, the son of Frank G. Hayden Jr. and Marion Caldwell Hayden, was born October 17, 1946 and raised in Forward Township. Bob was an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School, class of 1964. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree, in Agricultural Science, from West Virginia University in 1968 and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. After graduation from WVU, Bob worked alongside his father at the family dairy farm, Mentor Farms in Forward Township, for more than two decades. His career transitioned from being a full-time dairy farmer to working as a heavy equipment operator; however, he continued to pursue his passion for farming until his passing. He was an active member of Freemasonary and was a past officer of Charleroi-Monongahela Lodge, Monessen Chapter, Washington Council, McKean Commandary and Mon Valley AMD. Bob was also a member of Keystone Priory, Red Cross of Constatine, St. Thomas of Acon, Valley of Pittsburgh Scottish Rite, Knight Masons and York Rite College. Bob is survived by his three children, Amy (Aaron) Bernett of Gibsonia, R.C. (Andrea) Hayden Jr. of Sewickley and Mackenzie (Craig) Russell of Lawrence; and four grandchildren: Hanna Bernett, Molly Bernett, Kaitlyn Hayden and Amelia Hayden. He is also survived by his siblings, Beth "Elizabeth" Backus of Monongahela and Frank G. (Sandy) Hayden III of Forward Township; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Frye Funeral Home, 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. The Charleroi-Monongahela Lodge will conduct masonic services at 7 p.m. Friday evening, in the funeral home. Donations may be made in honor of Bob to the Children's Dyslexia Centers (a charity of Scottish Rite Freemasonary). childrensdyslexiacenters.org/

A warm thank you, Mr. Hayden, for letting us hunt groundhogs in your fields for so many years. We were so very sorry to hear that the world had lost such a friendly man.

I met Bob on a construction job in 2008. We shared our backgrounds and were friends from that day forward. He was a friendly and honest man that was worth knowing. I visited him on the farm many times and we talked about many things. I know he was proud of his family. I just saw him about 6 weeks ago on a nice day and we rode around the farm on his side by side. I never expected that to be the last time. Good Bye Friend. Emory

We will miss you cousin Bob. Our visits to the farm during the summers were the best times. I especially remember the time when you, Frankie and Georgie took 3 of your Philly girl cousins on a horseback ride. We all held on for dear life as you three laughed while going faster and faster. Thanks for the memories Bob. See you on the other side. Love, Barbara

Carol and I are so sad to hear about the loss of Brother and friend, Bob. Over the past few years he really made an impact on me when our two lodges merged. A Masons Mason. A class guy, friendly, and was what a Masonic Brother should be. Unfortunately, will be in Florida and won't get to say good-bye. Will always be remembered. He'll be a real plus in the Grand Lodge in the Kingdom...God speed. Brother John & Carol Hisiro
