Robert Stacko Obituary

Robert J. "Dam Man" Stacko, 92, of Hickory, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 19, 1932 in Avella, PA, the youngest of three children, son of the late Steve and Matilda Pocivanik Stacko. He had resided in Hickory, for the past 60 years. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950-1953, with the rank of Private First Class. Following his military service, he spent many years working on his farm in Hickory. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator for Harmon Creek Coal Company, Buddy Gregg Construction and Windy Hill construction before becoming a self-employed contractor in 1984. He retired from his business, Stacko Excavating, at the age of 81; after putting in 40+ dams across the area. Bob was a member of St. Michael Church in Avella, Operating Engineers Local 66 of Pittsburgh and the United Mine Workers of America. His time in the Army served him well, as he was an avid hunter and what many went on to call "a great shot". He looked forward to hunting on his farm with his beloved daughter, Betty Gene, and his grandchildren. He treasured his collection of old cars and tractors, a good cup of coffee, and listening to polka music. Bob cherished being surrounded by his family and especially enjoyed Sunday cookouts with his daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by ex-wife, Betty Stacko of Washington; his daughter Betty Allison of Washington; his grandchildren, Robert (Cassie) Allison of Canonsburg, Jason (Alison) Allison of Washington, John (Stephanie) Allison of Washington, Jennifer (Brian) McKinney of Cecil, Joe (Courtni) Allison of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jessica (James) Zelenka of Washington, Jamie Allison of Washington, Jill Allison of Washington, and Jeffrey Allison of Washington; and his 17 great-grandchildren who he adored. Deceased in addition to his parents are: a brother, William S. Stacko, Sr.; a sister, Mary Sfara; and a son-in-law, "Shorty" Allison. All funeral services and burial will be private, per his wishes. Full military rites will be accorded graveside in West Middletown Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., Avella, PA. I am so very sorry to read of "Uncle" Bob's passing. I work at Bert's Hotdog Shop and he would come every Saturday and Sunday for a large cup of coffee. He was the sweetest lil ole guy I have ever met! Rest in Peace Uncle Bob you will definately be missed.
