Sammy Koban Obituary

Sammy Lee Koban, 75, of California, died Monday, February 19, 2024. He was born January 16, 1949, in Brownsville, the son of Sam and Lillian Mason Koban. Sammy proudly served our country in the United States Army, as a Sergeant with B Company, in Long Xuyen during the Vietnam War, 1969 to 1970. In addition to his parents, Sammy was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Gerald Tylka. He worked for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in Monessen, and retired from the California Borough Street Department. Sammy was a life member of the California Young Men's Club, the former California American Legion JFK Post 377 and the AMVets of Hopwood. He was also an avid boater on the river and known to be the proud proprietor of "Sammy Land." Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Kathy Tylka; niece, Tracy Eadie and her husband, Rich (Freddie); nephew, Jerry Tylka and his wife, Sharon; great-nieces and nephews: BreAnn Chiovitti (Nick), Katelyn Adler (Ryan), Kelsey Tylka (Josten Mengerink) and Cody Tylka (Kaitlyn). Also surviving are great great-nieces and nephews: Amelia, Marley, Greyson, Lucas, Noah and Caden; and his beloved cat, Lucky. Friends will be received in the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Everyone is asked to meet directly at Highland Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, for the interment service, where full Military Rites and Honors will be accorded.
