Stella Louise Sertich

Stella Louise Sertich, 98, of Carmichaels, passed away peacefully, in her home, Wednesday, September 25, 2024. She was born April 9, 1926, a daughter of the late Rose and Joseph Klimek. Stella and Joseph Sertich Jr. were married for 68 years and had four children: twins, Joseph (Marlene) and John (Helen), Richard (Marte Lightstone) and Patricia (Denis O'Flynn O'Brien); grandchildren, Angela Morabito and John J. Sertich, Meredith Sertich, and Katherine and Denis O'Flynn O'Brien; great-grandchildren, Giana Morabito, Stella and Weston Sertich, Maura and Wilson Zimmermann and Duy Khai O'Flynn O'Brien; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death were her husband, Joe; twin sons, Joseph and John; and siblings, Joseph, Walter, Elizabeth Putila, William, Patricia, Gerald and John. An engaged community servant and Saint Matthias (Saint Hugh) Roman Catholic Church member, Stella was a Girl Scouts of America leader, Rosary Society member, and Catholic Daughters of America member serving as Grand Regent for the Dioceses of Pittsburgh and Greensburg in the 1970s. She also was a member of the Carmichaels Women's Civic Club. Stella and her husband, Joseph operated Sertich's General Store in Carmichaels from 1955-1969. She was also a financial associate for Cumberland Township utilities and a secretary for the Carmichaels Cumberland Joint Sewage Authority for over 25 years. Stella was a loyal friend to many and a strong advocate for young people. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, who will be comforted by their fond memories of Stella. Family and friends will be welcomed from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 27, in the Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320 (724-966-5100), where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 28. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in Saint Matthias (Saint Hugh) Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels. The Catholic Daughters of America and the Rosary Society will recite the rosary at 3:30 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home.
