Willa Mae Young

Willa Mae Young, 90, of Houston, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in Concordia Hospice of Washington, Donnell House. She was born October 21, 1933, a daughter of the late Samuel and Helen Marsh Jackson. Mrs. Young was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School. Willa Mae considered her service to the Lord as her greatest achievement. She was a former member of the Payne AME Church in Canonsburg and presently belonged to the St. Paul AME Church in Washington. She was active in her church life. Mrs. Young served as an adult Sunday school teacher at Payne and belonged to the Missionary Board at both churches. She enjoyed watching Reverend Stanley's preaching on TV, cooking, baking and she was an avid ancestry researcher, looking into her family's history. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. On July 22, 1953, she married Louis A. Young, who died November 2, 2019. She is survived by a son, Douglas L. Young (Jacqueline) of Monroe, N.C.; three grandchildren: Douglas L. Young Jr. (Judy), Corey Bennett and Jessica Johnson (Andrew Duncan); four great-grandchildren: Owen and Wyatt Johnson and Kierra and Kionna Bennett; son-in-law, Reverend Cordell Bennett of Greensburg; sister-in-law, Noreen "Sissy" Adams of Norfolk, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are two daughters: Deborah L. Young, who passed away May 9, 2024 and Karen Sue Bennett; and two brothers: Wilbur and William Jackson. Visitation will be held with her daughter, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner / Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Also from 10 to 11 a.m, the time of service, Saturday, May 18, 2024, in St. Paul AME Church, 16 Ridge Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
