Leon Charles 'Shotty' Boeker, Jr. was received into the arms of our Heavenly Father on June 1, 2015.
Born December 24, 1938, in Houston, Texas, to Leon Charles Boeker, Sr. and Vida Skrobanek Dixon. He was part of the Graduating Class at Smiley High School with whom he remained forever connected. He catered for all the reunions that followed!
His entrepreneurial spirit was sparked at the early age of eight with a paper route for the Chronicle. By the time he was seventeen he was working three jobs. With his love for people interaction and joy of cooking, his first entry into a lifetime of food preparation for others began with the opening of the Boeker's Burger Box on May 10, 1967. Humble Ice opened in 1982, which he believed was the best business decision he ever made. With a passion and talent for food preparation, his catering business began and continued throughout most of his life. Catering for many community events, including the Humble Livestock Show, was not a job, but a passion. Leon would feed anyone and everyone! His positive work ethic was an inspiration.
Leon served the Humble community throughout his adult life. With concerns for education Leon and Billy Smith founded Humble Christian School. He never met a stranger and often took care of those in need. He was recognized for his service to the Humble FFA program with the Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree in1984. The 1999 Humble ISD Livestock Show was dedicated to him for his continuous support to students, teachers, and FFA programs. As a member of the Six Pack Humble Livestock Show and Rodeo Buyer's group, he supported furthering students' education. He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show. In 2004, Leon's service to the Humble Lion's Club was recognized with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and the Texas Lions Camp lifetime membership.
When not working, Leon enjoyed ranching and hunting. For him, the sharing of the experience with others was as important as the experience itself.
On May 1, 1975, Leon married his beloved wife, Linda. Devoted and caring for him to the last moments of his life, Linda and Leon's relationship exemplifies true love. Leon was a devoted family man and father. His message to his children and others was the way he led his life.
Always be honest.
Treat all people with respect, the way you want to be treated.
Never take advantage of people
Use your manners.
Never give up when things get tough.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters; Karen Haggard and Gladys Boeker Johnson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 yrs., Linda Boeker; his children, Renee Boeker, Cary Hardy, Paulette Karalis, Rendy Boeker Kerr, Cindy Boeker Stokley, Brandi Boeker, Leon 'Trey' Boeker, and Brittany Boeker Skobla; his grandchildren, Taylor, Harrison, Brendy, Cari, Nolan, Cole, Hayden, Bella, Leon 'Brodie' IV, and Brenley; his aunts, Ida Wall and Dot Skrobanek; as well as, numerous friends.

Leon is so missed by everyone..He was a pillar in the community. I loved to hear his laugh and he did that often. I'm sure all that is in Heaven are enjoying him today while he walks the streets of Gold. Rest in Peace my dear friend.

We didn't know Mr. Boeker personally, but he helped us through a very tough time after Hurricane Ike by selling us 40# bags of ice for $5.00 a bag. We were so thankful in the human spirit of someone who was there to help instead of making a profit. What a great example to us all. We will never forget him.

Shotty and my father Jerald Redmon were very good friends. They have the same compassion for life and how they raised their children. I feel very blessed to have known Shotty and that our families are friends. You will be missed in so many ways. I know you and dad have lots to catch up on when you get to heaven.

I am very sorry to the family for your loss. Mr. Boeker was such a nice man. I still remember almost thirty years ago when I moved to the Humble Area buying those amazing hamburgers. What I got when I received the hamburger was a warm smile and sweet conversation. Mr. and Mrs. Boeker raised an amazing family. I am truly sorry and will keep your family in my prayers. God Bless.
