Robert W. "Bob" Affleck

Robert Wilkes "Bob" Affleck was born on March 20, 1923 in Killarney, Manitoba, Canada, and passed away on October 17, 2015 at the age of 92. He was a true gentleman with the highest integrity. Kind and caring, with a keen sense of humor, he was deeply loved by his family and friends.

He dedicated 42 years of service to Air Canada which included international communications, Trans-Atlantic flight crew, and a number of positions in sales and management administration in Cleveland, Buffalo, Chicago, and Houston.

He took a leave of absence from Air Canada in 1943 to join the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II.On Special Assignment, he served on the Canadian Frigate H.M.C.S. Outremont as a Telegraphist and was trained using the High Fidelity Direction Finding and Morse Code to report the positions of enemy submarines. The Outremont patrolled the North Atlantic waters, the waters off Murmansk, Russia and the English Channel in the D-Day Invasion.

He served as President of SKAL International, an organization around the world, promoting tourism and goodwill through travel. Bob was also a founding member of the Senior Golf Association of Kingwood Country Club, known as O.F.W.W.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Ralph Affleck; sister, Marion; and brothers, Alvin and Arnold.

Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, MaryAnn; daughters, Kristen Varela and her husband, Edward; and Meaghan Roosma and her husband, Mark; and a cherished Papa to grandsons, Wilkes and Alexander Varela, and Tyler and Matthew Roosma; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Martha Catholic Church, 4301 Woodridge Parkway, Porter, Texas 77365 on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
