There are so many things that I miss about Jack, his hugs, joking & teasing me, his cooking and most of all his love and closeness we shared. He may be gone but he will never, ever be forgotten. We all have lots of good memories with him and I will treasure mine always.

As I look a the pictures I have of all the visits to Salt Springs, I can relive all the fun we always have. Jack and his family are always a big part of that fun.

To Cactus Jack, my stepfather: Thank you for your service to this country in World War II. The lessons you learned as a young man during those times became the life you lived. Your compassion and love for your fellow man was manifested in your daily actions. You gave without expectation to those that were in need. You never looked for accolades or awards, just the joy and happiness in helping someone who needed it. The physical life you lived was truly an example to be followed by us all. And I thank you for the lessons you taught me. To live the golden rule, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You didn't attend church, but yet your are one of the most spiritual people I have ever met. You accepted me and my gifts without ridicule or question. You let me be me and you loved me. To have you in my life is the greatest gift. Thank you and I love you very much.

There are never enough words to describe the loss of such a wonderful man as Uncle Jack. I reckon everyone whos signed this registry shares those same wonderful memories of Jack that I do.I'll always remember pickin' with Uncle Brown ,Don Morton and watchin' Charlie Armstrong try to dance.Aunt Margaret dancin' on the table in Palatka on the trip up the river. Uncle Jack cookin for everbody he could feed, And for giving of himself in the sage advice he'd give to young and seasoned folks alike. The world lost one of it's very finest men with his passing.I so very fortunate to have known him He'll be sorely missed.

"When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure", a saying that certainly IS Cactus Jack. He made us all feel that we were treasures in his life but actually it was a "treasure" just to know him. Condolences go to all that knew him, it is our loss but God's gain. My love to Sandy, Shane, Lynn, Phil and family.

Our heartfelt sympathy to you Sandy, Lynn, Phil and family. When we came to Salt Springs 16 years ago and met Jack for the very first time, he said "you're part of our family now". That was Jack, enveloping us with his caring and loving ways. He totally crept into our heart and life, and was part of many of our family functions.
Christmas morning he called to wish us a Merry Christmas, I felt honored that he would take the time to do this, but that was Jack, always thinking of others, and loving life. Well Jack, we loved you and as I told you many times "YOU WERE UNIQUE IN ALL THE WORLD". Thanks Jack for making us part of your life.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

We'd like to thank Jack for all of his kindness and generosity that he has shown us since our move here. He was a special friend that you don't find very often...always a kind word, and wonderful smile! Bob loved to listen to him tell his stories and jokes and always made him feel "special". Cactus Jack will truly be missed here in the Forest, but we know that we shall see him again one day....and hope that he has some of his chicken and yellow rice ready! Thanks Jack for lending a helping hand to so many in their time of need. We know he played a part in helping when our "Scrambletown Angel" passed away, and we thank him from the bottom of our hearts! Our sympathy and prayers go out to his family, may God comfort them in their time of sorrow.

To the family of Jack, our hearts hurt and will forever. There was only one Jack and we loved him so dearly. He was so good to my mom and dad as well as myself and my husband. The highlight of my trips to visit my family always included going to see Jack and whatever surprises Cactus Jack's had going on that day. There was no way you could meet Jack and not feel his imprint on your heart. Jack is truly a hero! He will never be forgotten and the celebration of his life will be in every household who knew him. We will love and miss you forever, our dear "Cactus Jack."

I was sitting at a BIG fire on an extremely cold night. A wedding, on Little Lake Kerr. A man started talking to me, and it was Jack. We must have talked for an hour, at least. He was so pleasant and I enjoyed our conversation so much. I knew he was a very special man to the Salt Springs community after talking to him. He was the kind of man you would want to be around always. My condolences to the family. I KNOW he was truely loved!

Cactus Jack always treated everyone like family and was glad to see you no matter how long it had been between visits. The one thing that we will always remember about Cactus Jack was how gracious he was during his tribute in 2007 at the VFW. He said, "If I have ever helped anyone, then it was my pleasure". And that says it all, because you truly believed that it was his pleasure to do whatever he could to help the members of the community.
Cactus Jack is a legend and will be remembered by many stories of his life and times.

Me and my friend Vaughn were in Salt Springs 4 years ago on our motorcycles and needed gas. Unfortunately there was a power outage in the forrest so the pumps were inoperable,we only had enough gas to travel another 10 or so miles, we headed south and saw Cactus Jack's Bar & Grill, that is when we met Cactus Jack. He found enough gas to fill our tanks, provided food and drink and great conversation,a month later we met friends from Orlando at his place, the four of us had a photo taken with him that day. I had copies made and framed for us because it is one of the best photos of our many travels, and we all cherish it. He was one of a kind and the epitome of the "greatest generation". I believe he truly lived by the credo that "a stranger was just a friend you haven't met yet". I will never forget him and the way he conducted himself, always offering a helping hand and and a genuine smile. For his family and friends I am sorry for their loss , they will miss him as will many hundreds of others. I will miss him but I am grateful for the time me and my friends spent with him.

TO PHIL AND HIS FAMILY. WE WERE SORRY TO HERE OF THE PASSING OF SUCH A WONDERFUL MAN, AND AT THE SAME TIME, GRATEFUL TO HAVE BEEN APART OF SO MANY WONDERFUL MEMORIES AT THE CAMP AND AT THE BAR. HE WILL BE SADLY MISSED. YOU ARE IN OUR PRAYERS.

Things will not be the same without your smiling face, jokes and tricks....We had the pleasure of knowing you for a short time...but it felt as though we had known you forever. You treated everyone as though they were family. We feel sadness but heaven has gained another Angel. We'll miss you "Cactus Jack"!

Our deepest condolences to Sandy, Lynn, Phil and their families. Jack touched so many lives with his warm smile and heartfelt laugh.

The last time I saw Jack, it was almost as out of a Norman Rockwell picture: On Buzz & Lynn's porch a family breakfast with Lynn, Buzz, Phil & Jack enjoying each other's company.. with echo of laughter coming off the water.

He will be deeply missed.

Jack was truly a generous man and one of a kind of whom we don't see anymore. The whole community will miss him. I will miss his pre-hunt parties and our conversations of all his collectables. My deepest condolences to his wife and family.
