David Wright

Ocala - David Lee Wright was born on July 29, 1942, in Moline, IL, baptized into God's grace soon thereafter, and confirmed his faith in 1956. On June 3, 2021, in Ocala, FL, he entered his heavenly home at the age of 78.

His family came to Florida when he was two years old. He graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1960. Dave attended the University of Florida, where he received a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering degree in 1964. He served as president of the Florida-Georgia District of the Walther League, a Lutheran youth group, and was a member of the international board. During that time, he met Judith Ann Setley, and they were married on July 25, 1964. Their 56-year marriage was blessed with three children. He was very proud of their various achievements and generous hearts.

Dave and Judy lived for 40 years in Lake Park, FL. During that time he worked as an aerospace engineer for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. They were founding members of Bethel Lutheran Church in Hobe Sound, FL. Dave served as president of that congregation for many years. Upon retirement in 2002, they moved to Ocala, FL, where they became active members of St. John Lutheran Church. He also worked for 17 years as a volunteer building homes for Habitat for Humanity. He was a charter member of the core group of construction volunteers known as the Golden Hammers. He enjoyed golf (two holes in one), bowling (two 300 games), photography, and classic movies. Dave and Judy also enjoyed traveling all over the U.S., Canada, and overseas. He wanted to be remembered for his sense of humor, often on display through his novelty T-shirt collection.

Dave is survived by his wife, Judy, of Ocala; children: Dr. Karen Jackson (Rodney) of Oviedo, FL, Diane Elkins (Stephen) of Fairfax, VA, Dr. Brian Wright (Susan) of Auburn, AL; grandchildren: Bailey, Sydney, and Audrey Wright, Rachel and Aaron Jackson, Nick Elkins (Alana), and Allie Acosta (Christian); great-grandchildren: Lucas, Liam, and Leila Elkins; brother: Lynn, of Palm Bay, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 11 at 4:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 1915 SE Lake Weir Ave., Ocala, FL. Inurnment at Highland Memorial Park will occur at a later date.
