FARMER, ERNEST, 96
Conner - Ernest Farmer, 96, of Conner, Florida, passed away on November 26, 2014. He was born on September 30, 1918 in Stephens County, Georgia and was the son of the late Ben and Beulah Cash Farmer. He spent his early life in Stephens County. He graduated in 1938 at Eastonallee High School and attended Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Junior College in Clayton, Georgia. He was a machinist at Letourneau Company in Toccoa, Georgia before moving to Aiken, SC, where he was employed at the Savannah River Atomic Energy Plant.
He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Venango in the Pacific during World War II.
He and Caroline Wellhoner were married on June 25, 1955 at Ocklawaha Bridge Baptist Church.
In 1964 they moved to Florida, where he was manager of Juniper Springs, a US Forest Service Recreation area in the Ocala National Forest for several years. He and T.C. Grant developed and Ernest managed Tall Timber Travel Trailer Park until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of the Stephens County Historical Society and the First United Methodist Church of Toccoa, Ga. He was a 71 year member of the Masonic Lodge, first at Masonic Lodge #309 in Toccoa, Ga., then at Morning Star Lodge #94 in Conner, Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, three brothers and a nephew.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Wellhoner Farmer, several nieces and nephews including Dale Farmer Moseley of Toccoa, GA, Norman Farmer of Alaska, Jimmy Farmer of Decatur, GA and Howard Farmer of Toccoa, GA; a brother-in-law Edgar Wellhoner of Conner, FL.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on December 1, 2014 at John Conner Graham Cemetery in Conner with the Reverend Mike Harrison officiating. Visitation will be at the cemetery one hour prior to the funeral service.
