Monroe, MI - Harriet Williams McIntyre, 69 years, of Monroe, MI died on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at The University of Michigan Hospital. Born Harriet Virginia Williams on February 24, 1942, Harriet was the daughter of the late Dr. Kenneth Rast and Selma Rey (Reynolds) Williams. Harriet graduated from Ocala High School in 1959 and from the University of Georgia in Athens in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. After college, the Governor of Florida hired her to be the Face of Florida for the Florida Development Commission at the New York World's Fair and at their office in Rockefeller Center. After a cross-country, whirlwind courtship, Harriet married David Lewis McIntyre with much pomp on November 21, 1964 in Boca Raton, FL. In their 39 years together, they raised three daughters, sailed and traveled, and shared their lives with many friends. Since David's death, Harriet has focused her time on her grandchildren in Michigan and Washington teaching them the importance of graciousness, optimism, and a sense of adventure. Harriet was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe, Friends in Council, Monroe Golf and Country Club, the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida, Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity, and was a former board member of ORCAT. Harriet is survived by three daughters: Marian Rey McIntyre (David Griffiths) of Bloomfield Hills, MI; Lucy S. McIntyre of Bingham Farms, MI; and Sarah M. Madill (Scot) of Seattle, WA. She had eight grandchildren: Harriet, Lane, and Sam Griffiths; Kate, Mary Sumner, and Grace Kauffman; and Gwendolyn and Tripp Madill, and a brother: Franklin (Elaine) Williams of Florida. Family visitation will be private. On Tuesday, December 6, 2011 she will lie in state from 10:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Nancy Carle officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
