Dr. Jean Morse

Ocala - Dr. Jean A. Morse, Professor Emerita of Health Professions Education at the Medical College of Georgia passed away September 8, 2021. She was the daughter of Edgar Alston and Opal Birdsong, and was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 12, 1931. She was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University (A.B.), the University of Michigan (M.A.), and the University of Georgia (Ph.D.). She taught at Augusta College and at the Medical College of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, P. Kenneth Morse, and her brother, Edward E. Alston. Surviving her are her three sons: David (Linda), Steven (Janine), and Mark (Debra) plus four grandchildren, Melanie Morse, Sarah Morse, Kevin Morse and Michael Morse.

She was an active member of Ocala First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed lay teaching and participating in women's study activities. An avid genealogist, she was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the state of Georgia and the Alden Kindred of America.

During her retirement years in Georgia and Florida, Jean freely and frequently volunteered her services to organizations such as AARP, by offering free tax preparation services. Other service included volunteer work at the Carrollton, GA soup kitchen. She enjoyed a number of hobbies, becoming quite skilled in photography, stained glass work, creating Fabergé egg pieces, sewing and dressmaking, reading, bird watching, and playing with, and more recently, visiting with her grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, the Circle 24/7 (circle247.org) or the First Presbyterian Church of Ocala.

She was an incredible woman, and very gifted with creativity, intellect, and music. Thank you to the first Presbyterian Church and Pastor for allowing us to have the memorial on her birthday. As a mother, the most patient and hard-working woman I´ve known. We love and miss her so much.
