JOAN GRITTER Obituary

GRITTER, JOAN, 65
Ocala - Joan Gritter, 65, went to be with the LORD on May 27, 2012. She was surrounded by family in her Ocala home. Joan was born in Tennessee and moved to Ocala with her husband of 48 years Jim, and their three daughters, Patti Miller, Cindy Foster and Danielle Strout in 1970. Joan has three grandchildren; Justin Caruthers, Jayme Miller and Joey Miller. Joan was a stay at home Mom until her girls were grown and then worked as an associate in their Real Estate office, Gritter's Realty Investments. After five years, Joan worked with the First Steps Children's Program at First Baptist Church in Ocala, FL. Retiring in 2004, she was Assistant Director under her friend Pam Eubanks. Joan was loved by all who knew her. She had a tremendous impact on all who came in contact with her. But most of all the children. She loved teaching them about Almighty GOD and his Son Jesus Christ. She knew the scriptures like the back of her hand and was a die-hard Southern Baptist. Joan fought a 15 month battle with Ovarian Cancer and would want all women to have a CR125 Blood Test to determine a "Marker" as to their risk for Ovarian Cancer. You have to ask for your Doctor to do this test; they will not tell you about it and it does not show up on your Pap Smears or Pelvic Exams. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the American Cancer Society in Joan's name. A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Ocala on Maricamp Rd. at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2012.

To the Gritter family,
I am so sorry to read about Mrs. Gritter passing. I was your neighbor when you lived in Kissimmee. Patti and Cindy and my sister and I were friends as little girls, and Danielle was a baby. I have thought of all of you through the years and remember the good childhood memories. I never knew where y'all moved away to. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Joan, you were a wonderful mother, friend and grandmother. Your smile and bright sunny disposition was infectious and gave a positive attitude when anyone was around you. We shared our children and our birthdays. When ever our birthday comes around, I will smile and remember the wonderful person that you were.

Your family and friends are very thankful to have you in their lives and I am as well, for just knowing you, life is just a little bit better.

Rest in Peace my friend and spread your angel wings while looking down on the rest of us.

With love,

Ida May

Joan meant the world to me when I was a young Mother and she sweetly took care of my daughter Katie while I finished nursing school. I couldn't have done it without her help. She was truly a blessing to our family. Grace and peace to Jim and her lovely daughters.

Aunt Joan,
I will always remember the day that you came down to Hawthorne to see us and we went to the store. I bought a Charlie Brown Christmas shirt and left it in your car for a year until you came back to Hawthorne to give it to me. Thank you for the memories and I love and miss you.
