GLEDHILL, JOHN J., 85
Ocala - John J. Gledhill, 85, of Ocala, FL died on Saturday, October 5, 2013 in Ocala. John was born in Worksop, England on February 4, 1928 and was son to the late Joseph and Winifred (Wood) Gledhill. He served in the Royal Air Force from 1946 - 1948. He than attended Manchester University from 1948 to 1952; graduating with a Bachelor of Science and began his career as a Chemical Engineer. John traveled throughout the world for his oil industry business.
John had a livelong love of classical music and played the piano as well as composing. While living in Bahrain, he formed his own band. In 1978, along with his wife Val they settled in Dallas, Texas; in 1982 they moved to Manhatten, NY and after he retired in 1989 they moved to Ocala, FL. He also loved reading and traveling.
John was an exceptional husband to his wife of 33 years, Val and a beloved and devoted father to his children Sabrina, Kevin, Ryder and Gillian. He was a proud father-in-law to Oliver; treasured grandfather of Isis and Thomas; loving brother-in-law to Joy and Ray and a special uncle to Amanda and Ian.
The family will receive their friends on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 10:30AM to 11:00AM, at which time the service will be held in the TimberRidge Chapel of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 9695 SW 110th St., Ocala. Private cremation service will follow.
