LOUISE KIERSTEIN Obituary

KIERSTEIN, LOUISE, 92
Louise Gorman Kierstein, 92, died Monday, December 23, 2013, in Ocala, FL.
Louise was born in the Bronx on November 6, 1921, and was an avid reader as a child, bonding with her grandmother over their shared love of books. She joined the Army during World War II and traveled the world on her way to being stationed in Australia.
After the war, she returned home to the Bronx, where she met her husband Harold Kierstein on a blind date. They were married for 53 years and raised three children in Larchmont, NY, before moving to South Florida.
Louise devoted her life to education, receiving her Bachelors Degree from Hunter College and her Masters from Queens College. She taught special needs students in New York and Florida, and continued working with young children into her late 80s.
Louise's remarkable life covered ten decades of incredible accomplishments, including a long happy marriage and much time spent at the center of a loving, devoted family. She enjoyed playing tennis, cards and ping pong, and was always the loudest cheerleader at her grandchildren's baseball and basketball games.
She leaves behind a large, close-knit family, including three children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who knew her as Mom or Noonie. She is survived by her children, Mark Kierstein, Dr. Lee Kierstein and Lynne Wines, as well as Susan, Gabe, Ben, Kayla, Lysee, Resa, Ted, Teddy, Kiersten and Shawn.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Louise's name to United Way of Broward County, 1300 S. Andrews Ave. Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316, unitedwaybroward.org.
