MERLYN EUGENE, 80
Ocala - Merlyn Eugene Butcher, 80, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 1, 2017 at home surrounded by those he loved. Born in Saginaw, Michigan to Elaine and Addison 'Pat' Butcher, he lived most of his life in Merrill and Midland, Michigan.
Merlyn was a gentle, loving man of great faith in God and strong love of family. He took pleasure in a variety of pastimes over the years from piloting his own plane to touring the countryside on his candy apple red Honda Gold Wing.
Merlyn is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Marilyn Butcher; as well as his son, Mark (Kimberlee) Butcher; and his daughter, Michelle (Morey) Raiskin. He shared his enjoyment of the great outdoors with his children and grandchildren, who recall countless stories of fishing, Canadian adventures, and peanut butter fudge. His grandchildren are Roxana (Chris) Larsen, Katya (Brandon) Bell, Zachary (Amber) Foster, Tucker Foster, Tanner Foster, McKenna Foster, Cole Foster and Addison Foster. Merlyn is survived by brothers, Wesley (Gayla) Butcher, Hayden (Karen) Butcher, Lonnie (Robyn) Butcher, Dana (Marchelle) Butcher; brother-in-law, Larry (Marsha) Tester, also many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by sister-in-law, Janet Tester (George) Burt; and brother, Vernell (Sylvia) Butcher.
Celebration of Life for Merlyn will be at Christ Community Church, 37 Dogwood Road, Ocala on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10:30 AM. Merlyn will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell in honor of his service in the United States Navy. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Marion County, PO Box 4860, Ocala, Florida 34478 or Christ Community Church.

I remember when he and Marilyn were first married and enjoyed their singing many times in the years I attended Lakefield Wesleyan Church. My last time I saw them is when they sang at my wedding. He was a great man of God that made a positive impression on anyone who knew him. Thoughts and prayers to Marilyn who I also admire, may you feel God's arms wrapped around you.

Saddened to hear of Merlyn's passing. He was truly one of the good guys. I remember him always finding projects to do and being so detailed in them; it seemed he could fix, improve, update almost anything. Our deepest condolences. Nancy and Bill Haldin.
