Nancy Daniels Obituary

COLBY DANIELS,
NANCY, 92
Dunnellon - Nancy Colby Daniels died peacefully in Macon, Georgia on September 2, 2015, just short of her 93rd birthday.
Nancy is survived by her three daughters; Marilyn Hicks (Claude) of Macon, GA, Kathryn Arent (Douglas) of Panama City Beach, FL, and Elizabeth Daniels (Diane) of Clearwater, FL; her grandchildren Kathryn Hicks Henshaw (Jon), Charlotte Hicks Haines (Richard), Jessica Arent Owens (Bryan), Brian Arent (Jennifer) and Colby Arent (Kelsey); eight great grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and their children; and unofficially adopted daughters, Diane Spohn and Alisa Rehberg. She was devoted to her family and many friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William F. (Bill) Daniels; her parents, Paul W. and Bernice B. Colby; and sisters, Charlotte Colby Andersen and Marilyn Colby.
Nancy was born in Sioux City, Iowa but spent her youth in Tennessee where her dad worked for TVA. Her family moved to Panama Canal during the WW II years. It was there that she met and married Bill, the love of her life and had their first child. After the war years, they relocated to St Petersburg, Florida where they raised their family and ran the unique family business, Daniels Clover Specialty Company, the world's only commercial supplier of four leaf clovers. After her children were raised and the family business sold, she moved to Dunnellon, Florida where she had a lovely home on the Rainbow River and enjoyed many more happy years with Bill. She jokingly referred to this home as the 'Rainbow Inn' due to the constant flow of visiting friends and family.
Nancy was an accomplished singer and church choir member and soloist for years. After her voice weakened later in life, she learned to play the cello (Bill built it for her) and continued to play at church and for her own enjoyment. She was devoted to church and community service, was a deacon, a member and officer in Women's Service League, a Girl Scout leader and troop consultant, and a Meals on Wheels volunteer. She received an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women in recognition of her years of dedicated service. She loved the outdoors, was a supporter of environmental conservation and wildlife protection, and enjoyed hiking, canoeing, golfing and birding.
Nancy spent only the last two years of her life in Macon and there will be a memorial service in Macon in coming days. She was a devoted Christian and her family will also be holding a celebration of her life at a later date at her home church, Dunnellon Presbyterian Church in Dunnellon, Florida. At that time her ashes will be placed in the memorial garden there with those of her husband Bill. Anyone wishing to be notified of this later Dunnellon service should send an email to Elizabeth Daniels at [email protected] to be put on a list to receive these details when available. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Dunnellon Presbyterian Church, 20641 Chestnut Street, Dunnellon 34431 or the Audubon Society.

I always loved to hear Nancy's beautiful voice singing in the choir when she and the family were members of Pasadena Presbyterian Church in St Petersburg, FL. There seemed to be a Daniels exactly the same age as all of the Hersperger kids so we all grew up together sharing many fun times at church activities & summer camp at Weeki Wachee Springs. While we lost touch over the years EVERY time I see a 4 leaf clover I think of the family business and our good times together!

So sorry to hear of the passing of Nancy. Bill and I knew Nancy and her Bill for many years when we lived at Rainbow Springs and attended the same church, Over the years we kept in contact, especially when we would come up to float down the river and embark from our rubber boat at the Daniels home and then have a meal at the Front Porch. We often brought friends (from Mount Dora) wth us, So enjoyed those days and keeping in touch with Nancy. We shared a lot of similar interests (music, birding, the love of the Rainbow River).

Dear Lynn, Kathy, Beth, and family; Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of you during this difficult time. Nancy was such a joy to be with and always so caring. Although we only visited the river a few times, it was such a peaceful and serene place. Your parents seemed very happy there enjoying their retirement and family times. Your mom will be missed by many. Our love to all of you, Peg, Al, & John Antonelli

There are 3 things I will remember about my Aunt Nancy.
One, her sense of humor. Two, the many great times I had at her home on Renaldo Way playing with my cousins. Three, the relationship she and Uncle Bill had with my mom and dad. They had such a good time together. Cousin Mary
