Lee Destache Obituary

Destache, Lee Austin

Lee Austin Destache, 85, Armstrong Creek, passed peacefully into eternal life on Sunday, November 8, 2015. He was born on October 17, 1930, to Austin Charles Destache (Alvira) and Nathalie Lee Destache in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Lee was a 1948 graduate of Green Bay West High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy. Lee served on U.S.S. Manta, U.S.S. Cero and U.S.S. Segundo. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1953 and also served another 10 years in the Navy Reserve.

On March 27, 1954, Lee was united in marriage to Theressa Johnson in Oconto, WI.

He was an outgoing, master storyteller who was a loving and devoted husband and father to four children. After serving his country he went on to work in the telecommunications industry, including working 20 years with Wisconsin Bell. Lee founded Opticom, Inc. in 1972 in Oconto, WI, an optical supply ordering company that is still in operation today. He finished his working career at Cruisers Inc. in Oconto. After retirement in 1989, he and Theressa moved into their lake shore home in Armstrong Creek, WI.

Lee enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, guitar playing, painting, gardening, knitting (and spinning a good "yarn") as he was truly blessed with the gift of gab.

Lee is survived by his children: Michael Destache (Leah Zahorik), Oconto; Renee Destache (Michael Raby), De Pere; Amy Destache (Michael Johnston), Chicago, IL; Lori Carey (John Smithhisler), Oconto; grandchildren; Amber, Ryan, Nicole, Jayme, Eric, Brittany, Brooke, Shannon and Ashley; brothers-in-law: George Johnson (Joan), Green Bay; and Lawrence Johnson (Joanne), Menominee Falls, WI. He will also be dearly missed by his six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; his dear friends, Robert and Lorraine "Petey" Wilson; other relatives, friends, former co-workers, and those at the Goodman-Armstrong Creek VFW.

He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Theressa in 2005; and his sister, Charlotte Renier.

The Funeral Service was held at Blaney Funeral Home, Green Bay, on Friday, November 13. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Lee's name to benefit the VFW.

Lee's family extends a special thank you to the staff of Sharpe Care in Oconto Falls; his roommate, Ecker who became a very respected friend; and the staffs of Unity Hospice, and the Veterans Hospital of Iron Mountain, MI for their wonderful care of Lee.
