OELWEIN - Donna Jean Doty, 92 of Oelwein, died peacefully in her sleep at Oelwein Care Center, Friday April 19, 2024.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Christ United Presbyterian Church in Oelwein with the Rev. Paul Uzel officiating. Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church.
Interment will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.
Memorials may be directed to Christ United Presbyterian Church.

Donna Jean Thompson was born March 26, 1932, in Harrison County, Iowa, to Earle and Gladys Smith Thompson. She was the oldest of three children. Donna married Melvin John Doty in Woodbine on May 9, 1954. Three children were born to this marriage.
Donna worked as a Registered Nurse for many years, starting in private duty, then at Dr. Harold Hallberg's office, fourth floor labor and delivery at Mercy Hospital, and serving as Director of Nursing at Oelwein Care Center. After nursing Donna and Mel worked for Warren Properties as apartment complex managers in Tennessee, later moving up to regional managers in Tennessee, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Iowa, until retiring back to Oelwein. She was a member and Elder of Christ United Presbyterian Church, and PEO chapter CL. Donna dearly loved spending time with her family, visits with friends, puzzles, playing bingo, crocheting, and reading.
Donna is survived by her son, Michael (Debbie) Doty of Indianola; two daughters, Jean (Vic) Kane of Oelwein and Joelyn (Hal) Barker of Oelwein; six grandchildren: Sarah (Ethan) Shetler of Prole, Mandy Pagliai of Indianola, Isaac (Megan Fischer) Kane of Oelwein, Hallie (Brian) Roth of Oelwein, Douglas (Amy) Barker of Oelwein, Jillian Barker of Oelwein; seven great-grandchildren: Zoey, Lainee, Alexis, Corbin, Sydney, Cameron, and Michael; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Mel in 2018; siblings, Doris and Donald; nephew Dennis; nieces, Betty and Kim.
