Lorena Westendorf Obituary
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Oran with the Rev. Kyle Barton officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Oran.
Visitation will be 3 - 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday. Becker & Son Funeral Home in Sumner is assisting Lorena's family. Online condolences may be left at www.beckermilnesrettig.com.
Lorena Sarah Hulda Emilie, daughter of August and Augusta (Meyer) Kuker was born April 26, 1924, at the family's home, rural Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized on May 18, 1924, and confirmed March 31, 1937, both at St. John Lutheran Church-Spring Fountain, rural Sumner. Lorena attended country school, rural Sumner. She began her working career at Sumner Produce, working there for several years. She was united in marriage with LaVern Westendorf on Sept. 21, 1944, at St. John Lutheran Church-Spring Fountain. The couple farmed in the Oran-Fairbank area for many years, retiring in 1988.
Lorena was a long-time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Oran, where she was active in the Quilting Circle and Ladies Aide. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, and loved to cook and bake.
Lorena is survived by her sons, Dale, and his wife Kathryn of Shell Rock and Darwin and his wife Mary of Janesville; daughter-in-law, Dianne Westendorf of Waverly; grandchildren, Karla (Bret) Renken, Kristi Shannon, Daniel (Becky) Westendorf, Darren (Emilee Metcalf) Westendorf, Jeremy (Christina) Westendorf, Alex (Melinda) Westendorf, Alena (Sean Geiger) Westendorf, and Anella Westendorf; great-grandchildren, Autumn Renken, Sarah and Aly Shannon, Mya and Harper Westendorf, Braxten, Maddox, Cayson, Kambree, and Beckett Westendorf, Ryann, Kinsley, and Greyson Metcalf, Catalina and Jason Westendorf, Adrianna, Olivia, and Isabella Westendorf, Kylie and Lexan Geiger, and Jaxon and Alexis Westendorf.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, LaVern; daughter, Betty Jean; son, Dennis; and sister Vada (Bill) Gaede.
