LINDY LAVERNE HANFT Lindy Laverne Hanft, age 93, passed away peacefully at home in West Branch, MI on Monday, December 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 2, 1931, in Galena, IL to Leo and Hattie (Karberg) Hanft. Lindy's life was marked by dedication to the service of his country, and unyielding love for his family. He enjoyed living next to Iron's Park, where he could socialize and visit with those at the park. Lindy began his working life as a telegraph operator for the Railroad. He later dedicated an impressive 33 years as a clerk at the Post Office, where his friendly demeanor and unwavering work ethic made a lasting impression on colleagues and patrons alike. His contributions to the community extended beyond his professional life; he was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in West Branch, grounding his life in faith, service, and generosity. A proud veteran, Lindy served his country after being drafted into the Marines. His service instilled in him a sense of duty and honor that he carried throughout his life. Beyond work and service, Lindy cherished the simple joys of life. Hunting, fishing, and exploring flea markets were among his treasured hobbies, allowing him the opportunity to embrace the outdoors. He loved to share great stories with his family and friends. Lindy's greatest joy came from his family, leaving behind a legacy of love and togetherness. He is survived by his children, Jeff (Lori) Hanft, Howie (Lynn) Hanft, Sandy Hanft, and Lisa (John) Curnow. His love for life will continue to resonate through his grandchildren: Kristy (Cory) Mitrzyk, Steven (Heather) Hanft, Elizabeth (Michael) Godfrey, Alex Hanft, Victoria (Dylan) Jensen, Seth (Alyssa) Hanft, and Sam Curnow. Lindy also found delight in his great-grandchildren, Bonnie Godfrey and Hendrix Jensen, who were a source of immense pride and joy in his later years. He is also survived by a brother, Kenny Hanft. He is now reunited in peace with his beloved wife, Eleanor Hanft, his parents, and siblings, Leo Hanft, Dorothy Miller, and Jeanette Leners, who await him in eternity. Cremation has taken place.
