Albert Burkett Obituary

Albert Laurence Burkett (Aug. 14, 1935 to July 12, 2013), those who knew him would speak volumes to his kind heart, giving spirit, and side splitting personality. He was a self-taught artist who was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. He attended Central Hower High School and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He moved to Chicago and worked as an illustrator and package designer for a Chicago advertising agency. There he also served as the Art Director and Advertising Manager for two newspapers. He was a sole proprietor of The Southside Shopper, an advertisement magazine. During his retirement he painted more frequently and exhibited his work in numerous art shows from 1990 to 2007.

Preceded in death by parents, Hudson Burkett Sr. and Margaret Burkett; sister, Betty Fuller; and brothers, Hudson Burkett Jr., and Kenneth Fuller. He is survived by daughter, Deborah Amos (John); sons, Nicholas Lyde, and Albert Laurence Burkett-Lyde; sister, Emma Mitchell; brother, Gerald Burkett (Alberta); grandchildren, Angela Parnell-Jackson (Todd), Marva Schenk (Paul), Brent Amos, Alexandra Amos; great-grand-children, Alisa Parnell, Melissa Boyer, Kiara Jackson, Isaiah Jackson, Ramsey Schnek, Izaiah Schnek, Ezra Schenk, Anyla Tyler; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and special friends.

Funeral Services will be held at Sommerville Funeral Home, 1695 Diagonal Rd., Akron, OH 44320 on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. Condolences may be sent to 1213 Millhaven Dr., Copley, Ohio 44321. Entombment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

we met Larry at Rolling Acres Mall in 1991, loved his work and comissioned him to paint large paintings from photos .He made us very happy.Bought some of his other work Also. his art still adorns our home. The world has lost a wonderful artist ,God called home a kind soul. .

just want to send out my deepest condolences to the family..Larry will be truly missed..I & my family have known Larry since I was a child growing up in Chicago Ill.& who ever thought that I would be reunited with him again here in Akron OH.I spent time with Larry these last couple of months & I will truly miss him R.I.P.
