Andrew W. Johnson, 87, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2006.
A native of Cleveland, Mr. Johnson was a resident of Bath Township. He was a retired steel worker and had 34 years of service at Republic Steel. During World War II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was in four major battles in the South Pacific against Japanese forces on Roi-Namur, Kwajalein Atoll, the Marshall Islands; on Saipan and Tinian, the Marianas Islands; and on Iwo Jima. He was awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
He was a devoted husband, for 59 years, of Josephine; devoted father of Virginia M. Johnson, Mary L. (John) Sandor, Elizabeth A. Skowronski and Margaret K. "Peggy" (Ed) Reid; loving grandfather to John G. and Mary Candice Sandor. His parents, William and Mary Johnson; brother, Ralph; sister, Virginia M. Johnson; and son-in-law, Theodore Skowronski, all preceded him in death.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley, Ciriello & Carr Fairlawn Chapel (39 S. Miller Rd.) Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Victor's Catholic Church, 3435 Everett Rd. in Richfield. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. THE PROCESSION WILL FORM AT THE CHURCH. Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
