Angelike Bellios Obituary

Angelike Bellios

Angelike Bellios, age 105, died on Saturday, December 13, 2014. Born June 20, 1909 in Tripoli, Greece, she was the daughter of Chris and Theo-phany (Batsie) Vasilo-poulos.

Angelike married Christ N. Bellios in 1927, together they went to France and then came to America by way of steamship; she became a U.S. citizen in 1934.

Angelike had been a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church for 87 years, where she was a member of Philoptochos Melissa Society from its creation in the 1930s. She worked on the church bazaar since its inception in the '50s, sold hand-made lapel pins in honor of Greece's Independence Day and donated the proceeds to the Church for over 50 years, and she participated in a Walk-a-thon fund-raiser for the Church until she was in her late 80s.

Caring, strong, and dedicated to Church and family, she was also beloved for her excellent and copious cooking, meticulous sewing, hard work, famous baklava, paximathia, and many lessons on life and family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Christopher in 1937; mother, Theophany in 1967; husband, Christ in 1957; brother, Nicholas in 1943; sister, Dora in 2000; son, Aristotle in 2005; daughter-in-law, Kristine in 2009; and brother-in-law, George in 1964.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Nicholas (Verna) Bellios; grandchildren, Christine (Phil), Nicholas Jr. (Randi), Christopher John, Joanna (Michael) Wozniak, and Caroline (Glenn); great-grandchildren, Brooke, Will, Bradley, Ryder, John, Theo, and Alec.

Friends will be received on Monday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Annunication Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron, where services will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Memorial may be made to the Philoptochos Melissa Society in care of the church.

I am friends with Christopher John Bellios and I have heard of his loss, which is our loss. I have never met Ms. Bellios and unfortunately never will be able to. From one Buckeye to another, I can only hope that her memory lives on through her friends and family that have survived her.

Heaven welcomed in a dear soul when Mrs. Bellios entered through those gates! I walked into Mrs. B's house as a caregiver but I defiantly away with a Yiayia. Bellios family you have been truly blessed having a grand lady like Mrs. B to look up to.
