Anthony Scarpitti Obituary

Anthony Vincent Scarpitti, 89,, of Jackson Township, Ohio passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021. To his wife he was "Honey;" to his boys and grandkids he was "Pa;" to his oldest friends and family, he was "Harp;" and to the rest of the world he was "Tony." If you were somehow able to ask him how he died, he would look at you, smile, and say "lack of breathing" so, we will just go with that. Harp was born in Akron, Ohio on April 9, 1931 to Nicola and Marietta (Carano) Scarpitti. After graduating from North High School in January 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served our country in the Korean War. After his service, he worked full-time as a body and fender craftsman for his brother-in-law, Bill Vincent, at Quality Body Shop in Akron while studying at Kent State University. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Norma Jean Masiella of North Hill and they began a love-affair that saw more than 64 Christmases. In 1960, Tony began his career as an elite Claimsman (and later Claim Superintendent) for State Farm Insurance Company, where he retired in 1996 as a beloved boss and esteemed member of the Akron legal and insurance communities. He also liked to brag that he was "a member of an organization that constantly reminded him that you had to accept the things you cannot change. "If you knew him there, you knew his coin said "50." An avid golfer, he had the distinction of scoring two holes-in-one: one left-handed and one right. Pa loved to love and he wasn't afraid to tell you often that HE loved YOU. He liked to show it, too. He was always there with a hug, a kiss, an encouraging pat on the back, or a kick in the butt (if you needed one). He was a wise mentor to many and happy to give sage advice and direction, whether it was to "take it one day at a time," or to remind you that "State Farm still pays for gas." He also would like to tell you to "do yourself a favor, and don't get old!" He loved travel, scorch, argue politics, and root for the Fighting Irish. He is now at an outdoor Masiella Sunday picnic with all those he loved and lost, including his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Carmella and Bill Vincent, and his brother and sister-in-law, James and Annie. He leaves love behind too: his wife and sweetheart of 64 years Norma; his boys, Vincent (Michelle), of Barberton, and Mark (Penni), of Braselton, Georgia; four grandchildren, Anthony (Breanna), Emily (Canyon), John, and Matthew; his brother, Stephen (Judy), of Akron; many loving nieces and nephews, and more friends than he could count. The Scarpitti family are eternally grateful to Anthony's nephew, Tom Cull and his wife, Maria for help and support as well as daily visits via FaceTime calls during these tragic and isolated times. Family is Love; that is Anthony Scarpitti's legacy. Due to the pandemic, funeral arrangements will be announced when it is safe for family to travel., 89 of Jackson Township, Ohio. passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021.
