Rev. Arthur A. Bacher

The Reverend Arthur A. Bacher Pastor Emeritus, Saint Victor Parish, Richfield died Saturday, 29 May 2021, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments. Arthur Andrew Bacher was born on 14 April 1929. His parents were the late Andrew Frederick and Hilda (Newkome). He was preceded in death by his brother, Monsignor Robert Bacher. He was educated at St. Martha Elementary, Akron, St. Charles High School, Baltimore, MD, St. Charles College, Baltimore, MD and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 18 December 1954 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Archbishop Edward F. Hoban ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland. Fr. Bacher's first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Bernadette, Westlake. On 21 June 1960 he was transferred to serve as Parochial Vicar of St. Francis Xavier, Medina. In addition, he was appointed to serve as Director of CYO Wooster Deanery effective 3 October 1960 and reappointed on 14 September 1964. Fr. Bacher was assigned Parochial Vicar of Annunciation, Akron on 10 June 1965. During this assignment he also served on the Board of Directors for Disciplinary Matter for St. Mary Seminary. On 2 September 1969 he was appointed to serve St. Mary Seminary as a faculty member. He was appointed Treasurer and Procurator of St. Mary Seminary on 16 July 1970. In addition, he served as Prosynodal Judge for the Diocesan Tribunal effective 21 April 1971. On 17 June 1974 Fr. Bacher was appointed Pastor of St. Louis, Cleveland Hts. During this assignment, he served on the Board of Deputies for St. Mary Seminary, as Dean and Consultor (1980-1983) and he was re-appointed Prosynodal Judge for the Diocesan Tribunal effective 30 June 1982 for a 10 year term. Fr. Bacher was appointed Pastor of St. Victor, Richfield on 20 October 1986. Fr. Bacher retired on 13 June 2000 and was named Pastor Emeritus of St. Victor, Richfield. On 25 March 2002, he was assigned Administrator pro tem of St. Colette, Brunswick. Fr. Bacher enjoyed his priesthood and faithfully served when called upon well into his retirement. His kind and gentle disposition will be missed by many. The wake will begin with Vespers on Friday, 4 June 2021 in St. Victor Church, 3435 Everett Road, Richfield, Ohio 44286 at 3:00 p.m. Bishop Edward C. Malesic will be the presider and Fr. Charles Stollenwerk will be the homilist. The wake will continue until 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 5 June 2021 in St. Victor Church at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Roger W. Gries will be the main celebrant and Fr. Jim Maloney will be the homilist. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Northfield.
