Carl Lammlein Obituary

Carl J. Lammlein, Jr.

Carl J. Lammlein, Jr., age 72, of Uniontown, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014, surrounded by family after a long courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Akron, Ohio on January 28, 1942 to Carl and Mae Lammlein and graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School in 1960. He was a machine repairman for Chrysler at the Twinsburg stamping plant from where he retired after 25 years of service in 2002. He was an avid woodworker who made many projects for his church, furniture, and amazing toys. He enjoyed working on his train layout building his own buildings and bridges. He also volunteered his time in the woodshop of Camp Quality, a week-long camp for children with cancer, where so many touched his heart before his own diagnosis. But what he loved most of all was the time he volunteered with the Boy Scouts. He served with the "Tuesday Group", Campmaster Staff, and summer camp maintenance staff all at Camps Butler and Manatoc. He served as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor helping countless young men grow into adults. He was an Order of the Arrow Brotherhood recipient and was awarded the Silver Beaver in 2014.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy in 2004. He is survived by his children, Christine Lammlein, Joseph (Brenda) Lammlein, Sharon Lammlein, and Daniel (Stephanie) Lammlein; grandchildren, Kelly and Tom Kreinbrink, Lauren and Alex Lammlein, Jack and Sage Lammlein; great-grandson, Kaden, brothers, Jim (Bonnie), Mark (Winnie), Joe (Carolyn); and special friend, Nina Musgrave.

Calling hours will be Thursday, November 20, 2014, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Rd., Akron, Ohio 44312, where Mass of Christian burial will be at Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10 a.m. officiated by Reverend David Halaiko (Carl's brother in-law). Interment Greenlawn Cemetery in Uniontown. Memorials may be made in his name to the Nativity Building Fund, Camp Manatoc c/o the Great Trail Council, or the C&O Historical Society.

We never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Lammlein, but we feel we know him through his son Dan. He had to be a special person and father to raise a son that has so much love and integrity. We wish all the memories you have with your father, will bring you all the peace and love you will need to ease your loss.

I worked with Carl at Chrysler. He was a good mechanic. He was a smart man who knew his job. Not afraid of work and an honest person. I have one of his trucks he built. It sill is a work of art.
