STOW -- Casmer ``Casey" Karbowicz, 86, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2006, at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital.
He was born in Akron and had been an area resident his entire life. He was employed by General Motors Terex Plant as an executive chauffeur for over 20 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, the American Legion, and was a veteran of the Air Force during World War II. He was a sports enthusiast, playing basketball for Akron North High, where he was the area's high scorer and a member of the All-Star team. He was a bowler and was proud of rolling a 300 game. He also enjoyed baseball and was a football and baseball coach from his couch.
Mr. Karbowicz is survived by his wife, Marie; children, Karen (John) Murphy of Hudson, Casmer (Dawn) Karbowicz Jr. of Sagamore Hills, Cheryl (Thomas) Cannell of Northfield Center, and Karl (Cheryl) Karbowicz of Chesterland; sister, Mabel (Robert) Vrabel of Akron; grandchildren, Jennifer (Chad) Carter, John Murphy III, Caitlin Murphy, Grant and Keith Karbowicz, Dustin, Corey, and Jade Cannell, and Jillian and Kelly Karbowicz; great-grandchildren, Joey and Alex Carter, and was preceded in death by his parents, Waclaw and Jennie (nee Wojchiehowski) Karbowicz.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. (place to be announced). Interment at St. Nicholas Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, 95 W. Waterloo Rd., where a Parastas service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Assocociation, the Spina Bifida Association, or the St. Nicholas Cemetery Maintenance Fund.
