Charles D. Harmon

1948 - 2021

Charles D. Harmon, age 73, of New Franklin (Akron) Ohio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 after a short illness. He was born February 24, 1948 in Akron, Ohio to Charles L. Harmon and Billie Jean (Plaster) Harmon. Charles attended South High School and later joined the United States Navy and served four years. He was on the final crew of the USS Yorktown and later decommissioned it. Charles was very active in the Boy Scouts of America serving as Camp Director for cub day-camp at Camp Butler and serving as Cub Master for pack 3118 and Scout Master for troop 118 for many years. He earned his Wood Badge for both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed taking the boys to summer camp at Camp Manatoc. He had a love for backpacking, canoeing, camping and was an avid fisherman. When Charles went camping with his family and friends he loved to do Dutch Oven Cooking! One never knew what deliciousness he was creating! Every summer Charlie would plant a garden and grow tomatoes and peppers. The hotter the pepper the better! Charles retired from the Tool and Diecast industry after many years before his full retirement from Baumgardner Burial Products. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lois; children, Steve (Amy) Harmon, Stacie Harmon and Michael (Megan) Harmon; four wonderful grandchildren that he enjoyed, Nathan, Annie, Melanie, Mallorie and Maisie who will arrive in May. He is also survived by his mother, Billie Jean Harmon; sister, Sue Harmon Shaw and nephew, Adam Shaw and many dear family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Harmon. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Firestone Park United Methodist Church (250 N. Firestone Blvd., Akron, Ohio 44301) from 12 to 2 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Charles's life at 2 p.m. with Reverend Linda Bradley officiating. A private family Inurnment will take place at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
