She joins the love of her life, husband, Fred "Blub," and precious son, Freddy, as well as her father, Salvin M. Smith. Darlene retired from Yoder Brothers, Inc. She was an avid reader and bingo player (Copley VFW Post 7971), and was a loving grandmother. She was diagnosed with multiple myeloma while caring for her husband and always put his needs first until he succumbed to liver cancer.
She is survived by mother, Mary Smith; son, Salvin; daughters, Sally Perry, Tammie (Joe) Zelei, and Teri Tavanello; sister, Sally Hooser; brother, Salvin Smith; grandsons, Nick and Ben Zelei; and granddaughter, Jenna Perry.
"Sleep tight, our sweet Mama. You will always live in our hearts, and your bravery has been an inspiration to all of us."
Please join the family for a celebration of Darlene's life on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at Lake Anna Hall in Barberton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of VNS. (COX, BARBERTON,

I have so much to say about my Mom, but I will try to keep it short.
She was not only my Mother, but my friend.
I will miss going to bingo with her...which she so looked forward to, even when she was feeling so bad.
I will miss taking her out to eat on Sundays...she would not give that up for anything.
She was so strong and brave. You would never guess how much pain she was in, because she would not show it. She did not want pity, or sympathy...so she would 'act' like everything was fine, only we knew better.
She was the best Mom anyone could ever ask for.
I loved her so much, and will miss her immensely.

I had known Darlene since 1976. Worked together in the same office for all those years and now all I have are the memories. The good ones and there are a lot of them. As suggested, I have made a donation to Hospice of VNS.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. She was always a loving mother in-law who understood things better than we understood. I will miss her.

Mom's memorial celebration will be today, Sunday Oct. 30, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. All are welcome to join us for finger foods, desserts, and a joyful celebration of her life. She will surely be there in spirit for she could not stand to be away from her family. She has given us all her love all her life.
Cremation has taken place and one day soon, we will give our sweet Mamu's physical remains back to the universe; most likely from somewhere warm and full of sunshine.
Laku nuc', Mom. We love you madly.

As a young girl growing up no one could have hand picked a better Aunt to have on her side. Most of my fondest memories growing up are of those spent with my Aunt and my cousins. My Aunt Darlene will be missed by so many and I will treasure her and her beautiful smile for the rest of my life. Mom, Grandma, Tammie, Salvin, Sally and Terri my thoughts are with you. Love, Merilee
