David Stanich Obituary

David Victor Stanich, born March 30,1951 to Mike and Mary (Acree) in Akron Ohio, left this world in the early hours of September 18, 2009. Siblings Michael and Patty were with him when the angels took him to meet his Maker.

David's faith helped him fight his long battle with Parkinson's disease and more recently brain cancer. We miss you already but know you are with our Lord in heaven.

After graduating from Kenmore High in 1969 David joined the army and was an MP in Munich during the 1972 Olympics. Upon returning home, he attended Akron University, received a degree in education and began teaching special needs children. However, something kept calling him, so David along with his dog Smokie, packed up his car and set out on the road. Colorado was the next place he called home and where he began his career as a ranger with both the US Forestry and Park Services, a job that would take him all over the country from Alaska to the Florida Everglades.

After many travels David settled down in Moab, Utah. Always a fighter David refused to let his condition stop him. Sometimes while at work at the ranger station, David would freeze up, his coworkers would carry him home where he would wait for his meds to kick in, than walk back to work. That is David Victor Stanich.

In June 2008, David returned to Akron, where he was cared for and loved by family and friends.

David is survived by daughters, Trisha Sheridan and Samantha Stanich; siblings, Michael Stanich, Julie Dahlke (husband Ted), Patricia Lamp (husband Ron); and grandson, Braeden Sheridan; niece, Michelle Atkins (husband Ron); nephews, Christopher and Kevin Kimmell (wife Natalie), Ted and David Dahlke; aunts, Pauline Vinson and Judy Finney; great nieces, Savanna and Maya; great nephew, Charlie, along with many cousins and extended family.

David's family wishes to thank his special friend Dottie Erb, who loved and cared for him while living in Moab.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, September 24th at 6 p.m. at the First Apostolic Church, 199 South Ave., Tallmadge, OH 44278 (Just south of Tallmadge Circle on route 91). Fellowship to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michel J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's, P.O. Box 780 NY, NY 10008-0780.

Dear Family--I am so sorry & sad to hear of Dave's passing--& so grateful to read of the kindness & care you & friends gave him when he needed it.

I too graduated w/him.

Do you remember the dog he had when he went into the Army?--the young, handsome Pugsley?

The day Dave left for the Army, I went over & packed up Pugs & carted him home.

I found a wonderful family for him--my boss at the time, a supervisor at the library downtown, who w/her KSU prof husband & 3 kids welcomed Pugs into their home w/enthusiasm & love & gave him a most excellent life.

I wrote Dave in the army & told him so he wouldn't worry.

Thanks for sharing in such detail about David's life in the newspaper notice--I'm not happy that he's no longer in this world--however, I'll take a cue from you & focus on the new world that has opened its arms to him, where he will always be safe, well, happy, & whole, with his dogs,& his other loved ones who've gone before--& nothing will ever hurt him again.

Peace to you all.

I wish i could be there to pay tribute to David. He was so brave and although i know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, the loss is so tragic for someone as full of life as he once was. My thoughts are with you tonight and always. Love you guys!

Dear family and friends of David,

I am very sorry for your loss. David and I graduated in the same class at Kenmore. David was a very kind, considerate person. I hope all of your memories of good times will eventually help ease your grief in the days ahead.

Sincerely,
Devona Vitatoe George (Class of 1969)

Pat & Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. David and I graduated together from Kenmore HS. I remembered David as a classy guy who always had time for his friends and classmates. Although we didn't stay in touch over the years, I will still miss him.

Pat & Family,
My sincerest sympathy for your loss.
Dave and I crossed paths a number of times after we graduated from high school. Once in the Army over in Germany and a number of times in Colorado. He would always stop in Denver on his way from Florida to Alaska and stay a couple of days. I always looked forward to seeing him and have great memories of our times together. May he rest in peace and God be with you and your family.

Pat & family,
Sincerest sympathy for your loss.
David was like a son to my parents growing up in Kenmore & a friend to all of us kids as our lives crossed paths over the years. I am so glad that I have such fond memories to cherish for all the years I knew & loved him & the great times I shared with him. May he rest in peace at last. You are in my thoughts & prayers.
