Reverend Dorothy Jean Carpenter, 76, of Newton Falls was called home to be with her Savior and Lord on Sunday, July 15, 2018. She was born on November 14, 1941 in Confluence, Pa. to Lloyd and Betty (Lytle) McPherson. Dorothy married the love of her life, Clarence "Russ" Carpenter, on July 18, 1966.
She lived a full and active life. Dorothy was a 1959 graduate of Windham High School. Her most passionate desire was to share Christ with everyone. That led her to pursue ordination in the Church of the Nazarene. Dorothy pastored churches at Barberton Mt. Summit in Akron and Cottage Grove in Akron as well as many supply pulpits. She was a proud and faithful member of the Windham Church of the Nazarene. Her second greatest passion was her family, which led to following her helicopter pilot Russ, to many states and they lived in Singapore and Thailand with a visit to Saigon Vietnam during the war.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Russ; children, Bud (Karen) Carpenter of Niles, Terry (Susan) Carpenter of North Canton, Rev. Jerry (Carol Lee) Carpenter of Hebron, Brian (Erin) Carpenter of Mogadore and Teresa (Sam) Knight of Windham; brothers, Lloyd (Mary) McPherson of Windham, Roger (Delores) McPherson of Ravenna, Warren McPherson of Windham and Joe (Connie) McPherson of Kettering; sister, Patti (Jim) Moore of Windham and Kay (Kenny) Friend of Windham; grandchildren, Michael, Anthony, Adam, Jessica, Danielle (R.J.), Malinda (Jay), Jen (Brent), Ben, Stephanie (AJ), Devon, Rusty and Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Miley, Emma, Logan, Owen, Leyna, Liam, Bear, Damon, Indiana and one on the way and sister-in-law, Carol McPherson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronald McPherson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 6 tto 8 p.m. at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, Ohio 44231 and Friday, July 20, 2018 from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Windham Bible Church, 9550 Parkman Road, Windham, Ohio 44288. Services to be held on Friday, July 20, 2018, 11 a.m., at the church with her son, Rev. Jerry Carpenter and Pastor Bob Henderson officiating. Burial to follow in Windham Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's name to the Windham Church of the Nazarene for the new addition. Online condolences at www.carlsonfuneralhomes.com

My sympathies to the Carpenter family. I remember Mrs. Carpenter well. She gave me lots of wise advice when I lived in Windham. She loved the Lord with all she had and was a total inspiration to me. RIP.

My heart and prayers are with Russ and the family. Both Dorothy and Russ played such a pivotal role in my life especially my teenage years. I am were I am now because of these two. So sad to hear of Pastor Carpenter's passing, she truly was an inspiration to many. Heaven has gained an angel - she is rejoicing in her savior's arms. My condolences to the family. God bless
