Gladys Simers Obituary

Gladys E. Simers, 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 27, 2010 after a long illness.

She was born near Manchester, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles E. and Emma Beougher and was a life-long resident of Summit County. She graduated from Akron East High and was a faithful member of Southeast Church of the Nazarene.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 61 years, Robert. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Leroy, Webster, and Charles Beougher and sisters, Nora and Alma Beougher, Ollie Appleby, and Florence Nottingham. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Gerald) Dietrick of Suffield; sons, Lawrence (Sharon) of Suffield, and Ronald (Jo) of Mt. Holly, N.C.; grandchildren, Marla (Carlos) Figueroa, Kimberly, Kenneth (Melissa), Ryan and Robert Simers, Kathleen (James) Starkey, and Matthew Dietrick; stepgrandchildren, Annette Dietrick Soles, Aimee Edwards, Gerald Jr. and Donald Dietrick; one great-granddaughter and 11 step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Virginia Grafmiller of Joplin, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral services will be Friday, July 2, at 11 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior at the Southeast Church of the Nazarene, 771 Dunbar Rd. Interment to follow at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or the Southeast Church of the Nazarene. To leave the family a special message, visit www.NewcomerAkron.com.
