Jacob Eugene "Gene" Yates
Jacob Eugene "Gene" Yates, 77, moved on from this life to his eternal home in heaven on October 11, 2016.
He was born in Huntington, W. Va. to the late Archie and Flora (Hagley) Yates and was an Akron resident since 1959.
Gene was a proud Army veteran of the Korean War and served as Commander and Past President of the American Legion Post 209. He retired from the R.C. Musson Rubber Company with 35 years of service.
Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda; children, Cynthia (Roger), Jeffrey Sr. (Michelle) and Edward (Heather); eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother, Archie; sisters, Sylvia (Larry) and Nancy. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Preston, Bennie, Harry and Tommy and sisters, Edith, Mabel, Ella Mae and Rosa.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home & Chapel, 760 E. Market St. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Don Rohbacher officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. I love you grandpa I know you've been gone almost 4 years now but it still hurts every day knowing I'm never gonna be able to cry on your shoulders anymore ever get a hug again from you. It gets better on a day to day basis but I will never be the same girl I was before you left us to be with God. My heart will never feel the same add you took part of that when you left. I love and miss you.
