James E. "Jim" Bouterse Sr.

1926 - 2016

James E. Bouterse, Sr. ("Jim")

Loving husband, father, and grandfather who was the victim of a tragic fall at home, has now joined his Heavenly Host. Born October 15th, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Paul Buehrle and Marie Lorenz, he was later adopted by Bert and Ruth Bouterse at the age of three due to his mother's death.

Because Jim was gifted with the voice of an angel, he became a featured performer in the St. Mary's Choir. He attended Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago and exited his senior year to join the Air Force in 1944, where he received training to become an airplane pilot.

After World War II ended, Jim attended Michigan State University where he met and married Margaret Jean Switzer ("Peggy").

They moved from Chicago to Akron in 1960 as an insurance agent with four kids.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Peggy; daughter, Mary Kristine "Kris"; sons, Jim Jr., Paul (Ann) of Akron, and John (Karen) of Frisco, Texas; Jim's six grandchildren include, Jake, Joe, Wesley, Hayley, Brianna and Alex. He loved each member of his family dearly and they brought joy to his life.

Jim continued to use his beautiful voice as the lead vocalist in the Interludes Barbershop Quartet. The foursome appeared in "The Music Man" at Carousel Dinner Theatre, starring Dick Gautier. The Interludes performed together for over 40 years.

Jim was a fighter with a history of medical problems he has managed to subdue since the mid 70's. The Good Lord is proud to welcome Jim home.

Viewing hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. TODAY, at Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd. in Fairlawn. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44303. Private inurnment Holy Cross Cemetery.
