James McCrady Obituary

James D. McCrady

THEN AND NOW

STOW -- James D. McCrady, 83, passed away January 4th, 2018. He was born on July 4th, 1934 in Akron, Ohio to Byron and Dorothy McCrady.

Jim grew up in Portage Lakes and as a child he enjoyed the Boy Scouts, football and basketball. He attended Coventry High School where he graduated in the Class of 1954. Jim and Karen married October 26, 1957 in Akron, Ohio and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together. Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957 and also served in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1963. He was very proud of his service to his country and shared many stories of his time in the Army. Jim was employed as a meat cutter for The Kroger Co. and Giant Eagle. He also worked for Hudson Builders and B. McCrady Construction before retiring. His passions were the outdoors, fishing, camping, woodworking, making toys for his grandchildren, Cleveland sports, and a love for old cars. He also enjoyed spending time with the family he so loved and seeing his grandchildren grow up. Jim was known for his generosity, always willing to help others in need. His kindness will not be forgotten by the many people he helped over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Dorothy (Gougler) McCrady. He is survived by his wife, Karen (Miller) McCrady; sisters, Barbara Marcello; Shirley (Carl) Ritchey; Karen (Jeff) Todd; brother, Dan (Elonet) McCrady; sons, Tim (Rima) McCrady, Scott McCrady, Michael (Martin Harrison) McCrady, Brian (Lori) McCrady; grandchildren, Amanda, Taylor, Alec, Madison, and Travis McCrady.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 11th, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Rd. in Stow, where funeral services will be held Friday, January 12th at 11 a.m.

The family would like to thank Kent Healthcare, UH Hospital of Ravenna, and others that helped take care of Jim in his time of need.

So many great memories of Mr. McCrady. always treated me like a son and gave me his opinion even when I didn't want to hear it, but I was always listening.
