James Yocono Obituary

James V. "Jimmy"

Yocono

James Vincent Yocono, the beloved husband of Virginia, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Hospice, sur rounded by his loving family.

Jimmy will be dearly missed by an extended family and many friends. His most complete expression of love was for his wife of 49 years.

Born in Akron, Ohio, Jimmy proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Honolulu, and was part of a mission to witness the first atomic bomb testing in the Bikini islands. Later, he married, started a family, and moved to Los Angeles, where he opened his first restaurant in 1960. Returning to Akron in 1972, Jimmy opened and operated Yocono's Restaurant for 28 years.

He was a member of the Italian- American Professional Businessmen's Association and the Ameri can Legion Post 473.

Although he retired early due to medical problems, he was the driv ing force behind his very successful family business. He took great pride in knowing that his devoted wife and daughters continued his vision of great food at a great price. Over the years, customers became friends, and employees became family.

Anyone who spent time with Jimmy learned of his love of fishing and passion for golf. His sister-in-law, Katy, was his favorite golf partner.

Preceded in death by his father and mother, Dominic and Mary, Jimmy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Virginia, who was his best friend, guardian angel, business partner, and biggest fan. He thought of Virginia as his rock and his hero. He also leaves behind his daughters, Becki (Zoltan) Kollat of Clyde, N.C., and Jamie (Jill) Yocono of Copley, Ohio. He is also survived by brother, Nunzio; sister, Sally (Ray) Cook; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Theresa Disbrow, Mary Tillet, Rosario Ferrise, Katherine (Arthur), Sam (Jenny) Ferrise, Albert (Rose) Ferrise, Tony Ferrise, Frank (Jenny) Ferrise, Patty (Mike) Patrino, Jean Sargon, Marianne (Tom) Lammers, all of Akron; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the loving staff at Hospice of Copley and Semper Care of Akron. Our grati tude goes out to everyone who took time out of their busy lives to help and lend support during such a difficult time.

"Jimmy, we will miss you terribly and never forget your generosity, love, and kindness."

Dear Aunt Virginia, Becky, and Jamie,

We are sorry to hear of your loss. Although I never knew Uncle Jimmy very well I only heard good things about him. You were always so nice when we came to visit in the restaurant. I only wish our families could have stayed closer.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Virginia and Family,

I really feel your loss with the passing of Jimmy. No matter how ill he was or how much he suffered, losing him is sad and a void that is never filled.

You're a great family, one whom my mother thought the world of.

May Jimmy rest in peace and may you all find hope in Christ.

I miss seeing you all at "Yocono's"

Varge, becki and Jamie, In addition to what i submitted today, when Jennifer would stop in to check on Jim while she was at Semper Care doing Dialysis, even in his sick bed he was always cheerful and he told her to make sure she gave me a hard time when she got home. I got a big kick out of it . Thank you Jim for touching our lives. Helen and Jen

Dear Virginia,Becki, and my buddy Jamie, Jim will always have a special place in my heart. His smile and humor would brighten any day.His Kindness and gentle ways were amazing to me,the way he could tame a squirrel to eat out of his hand at the Bancroft house, the many things he taught me to fix at the restaurant.(like the wiring in the soup warmer,or the steampot drain) . I learned so many things from all of you,it has made me grow into a better person,to where i am at today in my career. You all have done alot for me the past 30 years, for that i am grateful you all are in my life.Jamie my best bud ,our friendship means alot.I will miss Jimmy terribly and the way he always jokingly and lovingly gave me a hard time.I must say that the Funeral was Beautiful and heartfelt, just like him.oh,and by the way,any doggone highway. My heart goes out to you all. love, Helen
