Joanne Skadra (Pecko)

Joanne Skadra (Pecko), 76, passed away peacefully Friday, May 11, 2018 surrounded by her family.

Born in Akron on February 7, 1942 to the late Joe and Ann Pecko, Joanne grew up living and loving the good life in Firestone Park. She attended St. John Elementary and St. Mary High School, and loved music, dancing and Rock'n'Roll in her youth. Joanne grew up at St. Paul Catholic Church and later attended St. Hilary Catholic Church. Her faith carried her throughout her life.

Joanne took great pride in her home and her work as a mother. She loved decorating for the holidays, cooking and baking. She volunteered as a leader for her children's Girl Scout troops and the 4H Club. She loved her garden and her animals, even breeding and raising horses for a time. She especially loved her dog Reese and cat Betty. Joanne's generosity and compassion defined her. She gave without counting the cost.

In addition to her parents; Joanne was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Bernie Prebynski and former in-laws, Mary and Joseph Skadra. She is survived by her children, Lisa Skadra, Joan (Dave) Peter, Mike (Mary) Skadra, Jenny Al-Jammal, Gary Skadra, and Ann Marie Skadra; siblings, Jerry (Becky) Pecko, Sue (Jim) Ross, Joe (Kitty) Pecko, and Maureen (d. Bernie) Prebynski; grandchildren, Luke, Jake, Davis, Ryan, Alina, Joe, Adam, Alyssa, Kristian, and Drayton; great-grandchildren, Madison, Marshall, and Mya; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful to the Life Care Center of Medina and Medina Hospital for their compassionate care of Joanne.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. TOMORROW Monday, May 14 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St., Akron 44301, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior, beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Summit County, 7996 Darrow Road #30, Twinsburg, OH 44087, One of a Kind Pet Rescue, 1929 W Market St., Akron, OH 44313, or to St. Paul Catholic Church.

Dear mom:
It's unbelievable that it's already been a year since the awful day of May 11th 2018.
I want you to know that no matter how much time passes you are always loved and never forgotten.I am forever grateful for all the time we spent together especially in cars. Because now I know probably all your favorite songs from listening to the car radio starting when I was about 4. So just before I go to sleep tonight I am gonna play some in your rememberance.

Thinking about you mom, I miss but will always cherish the days when you told me how you were an original Elvis Presley, "At The Hop", "Wake Up Little Susie" and Beatles fan. You were not only a great mom but a very cool one too. I love you and miss you always. Forever in my ❤

Joanne was a lovely woman and a gentle spirit. My husband remembers her being a great roller skater in her St Paul days, ( her Dad would take her to skate).
