Joseph Grum Obituary

Joseph V. Grum

NORTON -- Joseph V. Grum passed away at the Hospice Care Center on November 3, 2010.

Joe was a lifelong resident of the Barberton/Norton area. He graduated from Barberton High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Force (World War II) and was a ground-to-air radio operator, serving time in the Philippines, Saipan, and Iwo Jima. Joe loved to play his Button Box and piano accordions; he was self-taught, and it was his favorite past time. He kept up his Slovenian heritage through his music. He also enjoyed doing yard work and wood working; there was nothing he couldn't fix. Joe was employed by Alside Inc. from where he retired after 30 years of loyal service. He met and married his wife of 63 years, Phyllis Ann of Lorain, Ohio, on October 25, 1947. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, now known as Prince of Peace, and the K.S.K.J. lodge.

Preceding Joe in death were his parents, Frank and Agnes (Regina) Grum; brother, Louis Meglich, sister, Josephine Uhryk, brother, Frank S. Grum; brothers-in-law, James Herwick and Joseph Uhryk, brother- and sister-in-law, Joseph and Jeannette Yankovich; and nephew, Mark Uhryk. Joe is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann; sister, Agnes Herwick (Doylestown); nieces, Holly (Michael) Mentler (Texas), Mary Jo (John) Regennitter (Fairlawn), Jeanne (Robert) Milane (S. Carolina), Carol Jean (Herb) Reiner (Arkansas), Gloria (Robert) Siblo (Virginia), Jerry (Susan) Uhryk (N. Carolina,) the family of Joseph and Jeannette Yankovich-Jody, Janet, Joann, Jimmy and Jack, and many great-nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the nurses of Wadsworth Home Care and the nurses of Hospice Care Center for their care and concern and to sister, Aggie Herwick, for all her help.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 6, 2010, 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Stein celebrant. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery with full military services by the Wadsworth VFW Post 1089 and American Legion Post 170. Visiting will be ONE HOUR PRIOR to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

If tears could build a stairway and memories build a lane, I'd walk, right up to heaven, and bring you home again.
