I was privileged to have worked with Doctor Walker from 1974 to 1989. He was the most caring and dedicated physician I have ever known. He truly loved the children he cared for and treated, as if they were his own. Doctor Walker cancelled several of his vacations to care for his hospitalized patients. Patients always came first.
We, as his staff, were considered a member of the family. He always spoke with great joy and pride when telling us about his family.
He will always be fondly remembered and never forgotten. He will truly be missed.

Rest in peace Doctor Walker.

Dr. Walker was the only pediatrician my children ever knew when they were tots. A warm, engaging man, he was the epitome of a caring doctor who always made you feel at ease. I also learned that Dr. Walker, former State Superintendent of Education, Martin Essex and I all attended George Washington High School in Indianapolis. RIP Dr. Walker, my condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Mrs. Walker,

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. As an employee of Children's, I have admired Dr. Walker for 40+ years and by having the privilege of working with you and our Women's Board, I was able to get to know you, too. I admired you both as individuals and as a couple. The world has lost a great physician, husband, and father. He will live forever in your memories. I will keep you, Dr. Walker, and your family in my prayers.

Dear Charlotte, Chris, Shelley, Gretchen, and family. Margie and I are deeply saddened by Lew's passing. Lew was my mentor, teacher and friend from the moment I met him as a resident in 1968. My wife knew Chris and Gretchen in her childhood (Marge Bauman). Lew's love of children and joy for life could be seen on his face every time I saw him. I learned much practical knowledge from him and incorporated his allergy wisdom into my own practice. Akron has lost a giant of a man

My heart sank when I saw that Dr Walker had passed away. As a lifelong asthmatic, I started seeing Dr Walker when I was an infant. There were countless times where I had to go to the emergency room as a child with my mother and Dr Walker met us there. Dr Walker was always there for anything for me and my family at any time, day or night. If it were not for Dr Walker, I may not be here today. Was the most kindest, caring doctor one could ask for and he I will never forget the impact he had on my life. God Bless you Dr Walker and thank you for all you done for me.

Dear Walker Family,
I was sad to read about Dr. walker's passing. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up on Brookfield Drive and "The Walkers". Dr. Walker was really one of a kind. His gentle manner had all of "us kids" loving him. He will be missed. May your hearts be filled with many wonderful memories.

I will always remember Dr. Walker's advice and guidance during my three years of Pediatric Residency at Akron Children's Hospital and during the time I knew him when I was in General Pediatrics practice in Summit County. It was during this time after Residency that Dr. Walker would always offer a kind word of greeting when I saw him in the hospital or at Hospital social functions. He was always available for a "curbside consultation." I will also remember the times that I saw him in the summer walking over to the hospital and he looked like he had just gotten back from Africa on safari. He was wearing khaki shorts and shirt and knee socks!

Dr. Walker managed the allergies and care of our children beginning in the early seventies. He had a great bedside manner and the children loved him. We pray for you, the wonderful family, that God's love will be as great and generous as you may need to travel through your time of grieving. We have lost a wonderful Doctor.

I am here today after 52 years because of Dr. Walker's care from birth through finally outgrowing my allergies in my late teens. He spent many nights by my bedside at Akron Childrens when I was in an oxygen tent and made several late night calls to our home when I was in distress. I was never afraid and was always glad to see him. His passing is a great loss. I will always remember his grace.

June 16, 2013

I will never forget this kind and gentle man. He was my doctor from the time I was born in '55 until my early teens. I will always hold a special place in my heart for him. RIP Dr. Walker.

I am a 36 y/o with Cystic Fibrosis. Dr. Walker was my doctor in the late 1970's when I was first diagnosed with CF. Although I do not remember him well, my mother would often comment on what a kind doctor Dr. Walker was. As for me, I have no doubt that his care in my early years have helped me come this far. The Walker family is in my prayers.
