Mary L. Serdinak

Mary L. Serdinak, 99, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020. Mary was born May 13, 1921 to the late Charles and Hildur Reid and was a lifelong area resident. She worked during WWII inspecting dirigibles. After raising a family, she became a nurse, working on an oncology floor and later at CYO Adult Day Care. Mary was an avid gardener, and she was a backyard birdwatcher. She was a selfless caregiver, never expecting anything in return. Mary especially loved watching Anne of Green Gables with her great-granddaughter, Jess. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. In addition to her parents; Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Emre in 2007; daughter, Mary Dorka; brothers, Robert, James and Charles Reid. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Donna), Gerald, and Tom (Star); grandchildren, Denise (Greg) Mulhollen, Jennifer and Michael Dorka, Noah and TJ Serdinak; great-grandchildren, Dr. Jessica (David) Nassar, Matthew and Kaylee Mulhollen; great-great-grandchildren, Emre and Corinne Nassar. Thank you to the staff at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center for your compassionate care of Mary in her final days. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, December 21 at the Anthony Funeral Homes, 1990 S Main St. in Akron. Masks and social distancing required. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 750 S Main St., Akron, OH 44311. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
