Mary Sorrentino Obituary

WADSWORTH -- Mary Sorrentino, 97, of Wadsworth, went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2011.

Born in New York City on January 3, 1914 to Antonio and Mary (Giacona) Crupi, Mrs. Sorrentino had been a Wadsworth resident for most of her life. At one time she worked for Frontier Fruit and Nut Co. and as cook at the Dutch Pantry. An accomplished seamstress, she was able to sew anything from curtains to grandchildren's outfits. Her many other pastimes included crocheting, bowling, cooking (her spaghetti sauce and Italian cookies were legendary), and playing games with her grandchildren (especially ``yocci'). A great listener, Mary, ``Grandma' or ``Nana' loved being around her family, getting updates on the lives of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had attended Wadsworth First Assembly of God Church.

In 1970 she was preceded in death by her husband, James. Her daughter, Antoinette ``Anne' Augustynovich; her son, Salvatore ``Sam' Sorrentino; and her sister, Helene ``Lena' Palmarini; grandchildren, Joette Saglimbene, Tonya Sorrentino, and Parris Shaffer also preceded her in death. Her survivors include daughter, Sara Saglimbene of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; son, Antonnio ``Tony' (Eileen) of Wadsworth; grandchildren, David and Michele Saglimbene, Karen (Dennis) Dunn, Sheryl (Garry) Menke, and Leslie Augustynovich, Douglas and Justine Sorrentino, Paul (Karla) Sorrentino and Barbara (John) Bayne, and Leila Sorrentino; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St., Akron, 44311), where friends may call one hour prior to service time. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth.

Karen, Sheryl and Leslie,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this sad time. I remember your Grandma well. She was always so energetic and spry - I am not surprised she lived to the ripe old age of 97. I know you have many wonderful memories to get you through this difficult time.

Leslie and family,

My sincere condolences in the passing of Grandma Sorrentino. I have such fond memories of her, and think of her when I make a big pot of her pasta sauce. It's as good as it gets, and she has many fans here in Maryland. My thoughts are with you.
