Kugs,

Your memory lives on and your sacrifice will never be forgotten. I always mention you whenever I talk to the young Airmen about the "good old days" and our time at the 726th. I miss your infectious positivity. The world definitely needs more people like you. Keep smiling down on us. RIP brother.

Hard to believe it's been another year! I had the honor of sharing your story with my entire dept of 130 employees...it is still a hard story to tell and everytime I tell it, it seems like it was yesterday. I put new flags and yellow roses at your memorial in Canyon Crossing and said a prayer for peace for your family. God Bless!

Kugs,

Today we honor your service and ultimate sacrifice. As the years pass by, it still doesn’t get any easier knowing that you’re gone. You impacted so many lives, your memory lives on everywhere. Here at Osan, your picture is on the AFOSI memorial mural. Anytime I speak with an agent, I tell them I had the honor of knowing you and how great of a person you were. Prayers to your family and loved ones. RIP brother. Miss you.

SSgt Kuglics, I had the sad but distinct honor of folding your flag at your service. It would only be a few years after that I found myself in Iraq on a two week notice. A 4y dental tech pulled for security detail. You were the first person I thought of. It kept me strong and cautious.remembering You kept me alive. I only wish I could have been there before to do the same somehow for you. Your sacrifice will never go forgotten and unhonored. I always and will always tell of your story even though I never got to meet you. Your service was the most remarkable I had ever seen. You are alway a hero! God bless and thank you always for everything.

Kugs,

Another year, another reminder that youre no longer with us. Hard to believe its been 13 years. This year would have marked your 20th year in the Air Force. I still remember your plans to retire at 38 years old and live the good life somewhere on the beach. This world misses you dearly. We need your caring personality and positive outlook during these difficult times. I know youre smiling down on us. Miss you buddy. Always thankful to have known you. Eternally grateful for your service. Will forever honor your sacrifice.

Les, Donna and Em, please know that everyone who knew Matt remembers him fondly and how much he still means to all of us. There's not a person he met that he didn't touch in some positive way. Kugs,
It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years since you were taken from us. I still have pictures from our time at Mountain Home and I share stories of what an incredible Airman, friend, and person you were every chance I get.

Memorial Day is always a somber day for me as I think of your ultimate sacrifice and how you were take. From us way too soon. You and your family are always in my thoughts and prayers. Keep smiling down on us buddy. Miss you.

So pleased to see there's a permanent space where we all can come to remember you!

I'm teaching theology at a Catholic high school now, and we're talking about just war theory. I've been reading and watching a lot of different materials to prepare myself to teach the students, and you've been at the front of my mind. Not only are you the person I've been closest to who has served our country, but you're the only person I know who was taken far too soon all because of your incredibly selfless nature and bottomless support for our country.

When I knew you well, I was far less matureso I don't think it ever occurred to me to properly thank you. I trust that you're in a place where you can feel the gratitude from those of us here...so I thank you now, from the bottom of my heart.

I can't believe this year will mark ten years since your untimely passing. And on that note, I'm going to transition to addressing your family...

Emily, Donna, Les

You're holding a special place in my thoughts and prayers this season. I'm going to teach my students about your son and brother, what a phenomenal man he was, and the legacy that continues through your good work. I hope you are doing wellmissing you all!

Love,
Hannah

Hey Little Brother,
Sorry I missed your birthday. Just got back from yet another trip to Afghanistan.

To the Kuglics family, we still remember and appreciate Matt's life and his sacrifice for us all as well as his endearing smile, which managed to cheer up everyone around him. I found this photo of a Det 101 party in Ohio, and of course Matt is smiling in it. Thank you all for your sacrifice as well and making Matt the man he will always be to everyone who knew him.

As a corporate trainer at USAA we start every training with our mission. Months ago we decided rather than reciting the mission that we would share what it means to us personally. I talk about Matthew. I tell my classes how remarkable and selfless he was. I talk about his zeal and enthusiasm for life. I tell them that our customers are the "Matthews" of our country and that it is an honor and privilege to provide them with the best service we can offer. We owe them no less. Hundreds this year have heard about Matthew and hundreds more will come to know him. It's my opportunity to honor Memorial Day many times a year. I will visit Canyon as promised...God bless you and keep you!

I made my visit to Matthew's memorial today in Canyon Crossing. There were many flags and someone left yellow roses. He is remembered and honored by those who recognize his sacrifice, even if they did not know him. It thundered and rained most of today so the park was empty and a sheriff sat in the parking lot appearing to keep vigil. It just seemed appropriate. Praying for peace in your hearts. God bless!

It's that time again...working at USAA I am always reminded of the sacrifices made daily by our brave servicemen and women. We are trained to value and hold our military in high esteem and to provide excellent service to excellent people and to those who are left behind as they serve. Although I am an Air Force brat, I learned all those lessons by knowing Matthew. I am never able to speak of him without crying and I am just so honored to have known him and to share his story. With great pride I will again lay flowers and place a flag at his memorial in Canyon Crossing this Veterans Day. I always find flags from others there so he is honored by others as well. God bless you! I promise we will never forget

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Kuglics Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

I'm sitting Kabul with only a couple days left. Started thinking about the old times...the last beer and laughs we had. Was thinking about eating dinner with your family...and how much they hurt. Your little sister was so devastated, Matt; and it was terrible because I couldn't do anything to make any of it any better. I felt so utterly worthless. What was I supposed to say to your little sister? Or your Mom's broken heart...or your Dad who was missing his little boy who was trying to be the rock for the whole family...just helpless. To this day I feel like I should had said or done something, but nothing was going to bring you back and that was the only thing that would had made it any better. It will always be the hardest thing and the most honorable duty I've ever had to do...I was so proud to honor you and your family for Police Week. Years have gone by, but it just doesn't seem like it. Feels like yesterday. Watch over us Brother. Feels like I could use and extra Angel watching over me and my family now...and I know you got mad skills. BTW...Your Mom and Dad are Rock Stars in my book. Until we meet again my friend.

Today in church the pastor talked about fingerprints and how everyone leaves their fingerprints in this world every day - Matthew left his prints imprinted on the hearts of those who knew him even for a short time. I left a flag and a note with the scripture John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends" at the Canyon Crossing memorial. For Matthew's family I pray for peace - thank you for raising a young man with such integrity and love for his country and family. For memorial day this year I decided to get a memorial bracelet. Although I never knew you personally, I was in Air Force JROTC and did the color guard to place your wreath by the high schools flag pole. That experience touched my heart deeply. So, I thought no better way to honor you than get the memorial bracelet with you name and it reads as follows...

SSGT MATTHEW J. KUGLICS OH USAF
IRAQI FREEDOM 05 JUN 07 KIA

I pray for your family regularly, especially Em. I'll never forget during the ceremony we rendered our salutes to honor you and so did she, bless her heart.

Matt,

I just spoke of you to my basic trainee's at Lackland Air Force base. They wanted to know if I knew anyone who had died in the war......I sure do miss that smile. You will always be with me for as long as I live. And I will NEVER let anyone who knows me and my career, not know about one of MY personal heros and friend. God bless you bud....tell God I said hello:o)

Kugs,

I haven't been able to bring myself to write anything in here. But, now more than two years later, I think it's time.

Yesterday was quite a day! More than 400 of your family members, AFOSI family, and friends including the Balmer family and Kava came to Wright-Patt to honor you. It was quite a spectacle with the Patriot Guard and Rolling Thunder lining the streets with American flags.

Communication Blvd on WPAFB has now been renamed Kuglics Blvd in your honor! The street will forever serve as a reminder of what you have done for us!

I am proud to be your friend, and now proud to be a part of your family. You have a wonderful family!

I was proud to be a part of yesterday - it was all for you! I know you were looking down on all of us with your great big smile!

Loves Forever!
~Jennifer
