Wow I can't believe it. I feel just the the other days I was watching the neighborhood boys playing basketball or bike riding up to the Gross house. With 2 younger ones trying to follow Jacob and Chance. We are always to go before our children. I am beside myself. Vince and Mary Kay I am so sorry. He is playing basketball in heaven and watching over all of you. May God help you all through this time of need. I am sorry I couldn't be there. I am out of town. I will pray for you and your family.❤

Vince, Mary Kay, Katie and Emily,
I'm just heartbroken at the loss of Nick.
I'll always see him in my mind as that little boy who was so good at baseball and basketball and a dear friend of my son's. I am praying that somehow God will be able to comfort you in some unexplainable way.

Hello, this is Matt Futch and I had the opportunity just a few weeks ago to share the court with Nick. Basketball seem to be his passion although I am a little older his name earned my respect on the court. That day I also had the chance to have an extended conversation as we discussed life and all the opportunities it brings. I enjoyed the conversation as it was another example of what the game of basketball does for us. I pray for your family in this challenging time. God bless

Dear Vince, Mary Kay and family,
Words can not express the shock I feel on your loss of Nick.
GOD needed another player in Heaven and called on the best player available. May he rest in peace. My deepest sympathies and condolences to you all.

I coached Nick during his 8th grade football CYU St Paul's team. He was an accomplished football player, which was secondary to his character as a person. It was only after the season that I learned that he was a true basketball prodigy. As an 8th grader at the Firestone Park Y, I once saw him dribbling with his knees better than most do with their hands. It was incomprehensible, an optical illusion, except it wasn't. As a player he was curious, hungry, respectful, and humble. These traits as an athlete were an extension of his character as man.
Since that time, I bumped into him some 20 years later. He was the same respectful, humble man.
Nick I hope that you are at peace, you will be missed and you are loved by many.

To the Gross Family, I was so saddened to hear of Nick's passing. I remember meeting you all so many years ago when Nick and our son George played against each other for AAU basketball...Air Attack vs. The Shooting Stars. We were rivals that became friends. I think of you family with fond memories. Nick was a kind and caring young man, who was fierce on the basketball court. I offer up prayers of peace and comfort to you all.
Sincerely,
Melody Bufford

On January 18, 2020 after a long layoff of playing basketball, Nick visited the Kohl family YMCA. Nick went with a new friend and played with old friends. Nick displayed his talent for basketball by finishing 4 of 5 from 3point range and playing lights out defense in his first game back against good competition as well as old college teammates. My last memory with my friend. Miss you buddy
